SRC Member iskay Posted July 5, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted July 5, 2012 Looks smallish for a 1-footer. You can also consider deltec600 or redsea prizm. Quote "Be formless... shapeless, like water. SRC Member iskay Posted July 5, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted July 5, 2012 Other choices - mce 300, mce 500, tunze 9002, bm nac qq... Quote "Be formless... shapeless, like water. SRC Member iskay Posted July 5, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted July 5, 2012 Should be okay. Tunze 9002 is rated for up to 50 US gallons. 1 foot cube is about 8 US gallons. SRC Member John Deroe Kenedy Posted July 5, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted July 5, 2012 Hi all, Not sure if anyone seen such HOB skimmer in the market before? Would like to get one for my 1feet cube and also at the same time put in some media. U need to know the specs before getting it. Pump rate etc... In a sump setup, the sump tank can be as big or even bigger than the display tank. if your 1 footer will be more than lightly stocked, a measly HOB will hardly be enough. I dont think he have a sump.. If he does, he would already asked for an internal skimmer instead of a HOB.. 1 footer don think need much of huge powered skimmer.. just get a dymax iq5 skimmer or BM NAC QQ for better skimmate. SRC Member JeffL Posted July 6, 2012 Author SRC Member Share Posted July 6, 2012 thanks for the help bros. Yes, I dont have a sump, only ISO and it's quite narrow. Was hoping Tunze 9002 and Dymax XP-30 can fit in but can't. I may want to use IQ5 skimmer, but if it doesn't skim well I must as well stick to just frequent water changes the pictures of the HOB skimmers on top suits me perfectly Quote 2 Feet Tank: (Decom Feb 2015)-Lightings : Pharos LED light 90W with wireless controller-Chiller : Arctica 1/10HP with H2Ocean Flow Pump 2000-Wavemaker : Vortech MP10ES -Skimmer : Bubble Magus NAC 3.5-Return Pump : Eheim Compact 3000-Reactor – TLF150 (Mod) with NP Biopellet-Reactor – TLF150 with Rowaphos
SRC Member inwear Posted July 7, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted July 7, 2012 For 1 feet WC at 20% is more than suffice for maintence. Nevertheless also depending on your setup. Can save your money on the led fixtures & LS

SRC Member iskay Posted July 7, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted July 7, 2012 I dont think he have a sump.. If he does, he would already asked for an internal skimmer instead of a HOB.. You missed my point. What I wanted to convey was that the tiny volume of media that can be held in the small HOB is hardly enough. Better off getting a good skimmer and put the media in the IOS. slapper
Is it good? I've been using RIO nanoskimmer. It does skims out some filth but u need to maintain it once a month for heavy-fed tank. Otherwise it will lose its efficiency. Quote My Tank Journey

SRC Member Firestarter Posted October 9, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted October 9, 2014 found this on Taobao. Anyone tested before? Air stone skimmers are not as efficient. For your tank size, with weekly water changes, you do not need a skimmer at all. Bro, if possible avoid air stone protein skimmer... they are only better than not using one... thanks for the advise guys it's going to be my first marine tank. As i'm now working at the northern part of china xi'an, water quality here was low. i bought a fluval edge 46L tank. As much as possible, i would like to change water every 2 weeks. There's also high chances of power failure here, thus i picked the air stone skimmer. Next option.. the tank comes with aquaclear 20, do you guys think it's wise to swap the mechanical filter out with this Macro Aqua M-30 ?
