Goniopora not opening up

I bought a goniopora 2 days back.. but its not opening up, but does feed as its top polyp comes out but not fully out.. what to do? first LPS

can it becoz of lighting? i place a small frag of jewel/gonio under a shaded rock with limited light, that frag tends to pop out but the one on the sand bed (no shades) did not want to pop, its just showing its flower tips but not the hole thing... wavemaker already aim at water surface.

You may need to check if they belongs to the long tentacles or not....some are called flower pot with short tentacles and they do not extend very long. A picture will be good.

You can try elevate onto a piece of rock...it works on my gonia

yeah, 1 smaller frag elevate opening quite well. the one on the sand bed is a big piece.. dunno how to elevate....

Go LFS buy a small piece of Rock. Or next week I pass 1 to u

I meant that i cant elevate the gonio coz the frag is too big.. need to split in half.. use wat ah? saw? lol

can try chisel hammer. be sure to hold the frag properly though... if not when it does crack apart.... pieces might fly.

my little frag of gonio is doing well.. but the big one seems like melting some of it polyps.. do i leave it in the tank? take out, brush out the melting part, place back in the tank or do i remove the whole thing?

I experience similar issue, moved my ST gonio from rock to sand bed, found out not suitable and move back to original place, fully open at 1st, but suddenly not fully extended as usual for past 2 days. Spot has good light and mod flow...any advises? Thanks

Adjust water flow

Feed daily 5ml of coral food for 4 days

Is it true that gonio don't do well in the tank in the long run? read various articles that they just degenerate away over time.

i just got mine from GO as boss say it shouldn't be a difficult coral for newbie. so far the coral is doing well and fully extended. but im just afraid for the long run

I read about it too, so far I've seen my fren's gonio doing well in his tank for coming a yr or more...and his tank's nitrate is off the charts. I got mine after seeing his...Got mine for roughly 2months now, its starting to look well..water change and feed regularly, not only good for Gonio, but for fishes too...don over feed thou...and I don't think Gonio should be considered for newbie..

they are photosynthetic, they feed on zooxanthellae that they host. Other than that, they do feed micro plankton, brine shrimp.. They eventually do well when i fed them oyster feast.

Goniopora are aggressive corals... so they do sting other corals..

if it isn't opening, you need to check on your water parameters.

under proper lighting n water conditions it will open up.

target feeding will improve it's growth n health.
