Hi all, I have Dymax IQ5 tank, height 25cm, width 21cm x 27cm. i am keeping 2 frogfish and 4 small corals inside, just add in another 3 Frogfish and 1 coral today. Is it okay? The 2 Frogfish and 4 Corals had been in the tank for 1 week plus. they are doing good.

Please advise. Thankssmile.gif

Nope... Not too be a wet blanket. the frogfishes will out grow your tank even if they are small ones.. And their bioload is quite high due to the food they eat.. So the nutrient level in the IQ5 will be too high to handle..

"in the tank for 1 week plus" is too short a time to confirm how they are doing. Livestocks need time to settle down let along thrive. Your bioload is already too high with 2 froggies.

IMO, Dymax IQ5 tank is barely sufficient for 1 frogfish since these fishes can grow up to 6 - 10 inches.

After adding another 3 frogfishes, you have 5 now? Thats really mission impossible.

In the wild, frogfishes devour entire preys such as fishes and crustaceans. They are big eaters so I guess their bioload is relatively higher. With only 3.5 gallon of water in IQ5, even moderate release of bioload can drastically increase the ammonia concentration and eventually killing the fishes. In most water change, IMO, only up to 20% of water is recommended so I doubt it can help to reduce the ammonia concentration by alot.

Just feel that IQ5 tank is not really suitable for frogfish.

Jeff

frogfish are very interesting fishes.. Its amazing how they lure their "prey"..

I had one, in fact the first fish when i converted to saltwater in an IQ5 too.. it was a a 2inch frogfish with rocks only.

however, IQ5 is really too small for it.. it even did a "swanton bomb" in my iq5..

I end up returning it to LFS 3 days later..
