forgot to add... am skimming my tank with two skimmer but the algae still growing on frag stand...why is this so? any ideas? using red sea prism and bm nac 3+

U need to check ya po4 level.

Anyway, my po4 is undetectable but i still gets algae too. U juz need some cleaning crews to do some algae control.

dont trust cleaning crew... had a hermit and it ate up my hammer...have blue tang

Your hermit got some ferorious appetite. Why dun go near frag stand?

hermit very guai in my previous tank, but transfer to this tank maybe no food cause i remove the sand so it start eating corals. or maybe it just crawed over hammer and pulled out all the tissue.

U can get turbo snails or sea hare for algae control, doesn't need to be hermit.

I dun find blue tang good in clearing algae, I prefer yellow tang instead.

Juz curious, how come one side of your rocks are so blackish and brown dark colored? The other side which are more white, on the left are new LR?

yep, just bought abt 2kg of lr from henry on monday.

Think it got bleached, maybe u want to lower it down from getting too much light.

U need to test ya parameters n make sure its at good levels. Else just go for lps 1st which is more forgiving.

Try to use distilled water.

Tap water is usually the cause of high PO4 which in term cause algae bloom.

should have as one time kh rose to 24 dkh in my tank... might also be light problem as last time b4 i fragged it it was at the top of my tank on the frag stand. cheers

If u dont have RO/DI system, buy Life Distilled Water at NTUC... 2 x1.5L bottles = 95cens

For ur algae issue, Its becoz of u using tap water with just seachem prime.

I dont really think that cleaners do much work. They are controllers but they are slow.

I would highly recommend u to buy a FR to run RowaPhos which u can hang it outside of the IOS.

FR+Rowaphos really helps, it removes Po4 n preventing Algae to consume them. I got mine free of algae within 1 week.

If u dun want to have an FR, just use it in the filter bag provided, and dump it at a high flow place.

But i still suggest using a FR coz rowaphos does better in a reactor.

no idea it is bleaching. lol. got it from sl abt 2 days ago. as for fr might go for second hand ones but first must replace my lightset b4 it trips the whole house again. cheers

I used to do the same thing as u, adding dechlorinator to tap water for top up and salt water mixing. In the end all my rocks has to be throw away due to the massive algae invasion. Had to spend even more on buying live rock and nsw change.

Its a better money spent rather then trying to get Algae off by buying addictives....

If u wanna save alot of money... Maybe at the moment u use DI Bottle water, save up some cash n get a RO/DI unit...
