Type of hydrometer

Recommended Posts

Hi. I've been using the floating type of hydrometer. The one which couples up as a thermometer. Read in the forum somewhere that they are not accurate. Can someone please recommend me one which is trust worthy? Kindly give me the brand and model (if have) Thanks guys!

get the swinging hand kind.. its much better but gotta keep clearing bubbles from the swinging pointer..

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

You don't need a pail to float the hydrometer. A tall column of water will do. Try using plastic soft drink or juice containers with a wide mouth.

haha.. but really, after a while of reefing, tasting with the tongue is quite accurate. I would do that :P till I think the water is alright then I start to test with my swinging hand hydrometer... cuts down the fuss of the number of testing and clearing bubbles...

petmart at serangoon north charges very reasonable prices for acessories.. they dun sell marine fishes though.. :P .. but the shops around do.. :D

a good refractometer cost a bomb. IMO, juz get the swinging type good enuff. the swinging type hydrometer by corallife should be good enuff. cost ard $15.

true. whats that 0.00X difference in water salinity? .. I believe many advanced reefers still use the swinging arm one..

refractometer is like if u really got a huge tank lor, if ur tank quite small, and u not going all out, den no need refractometer

no really.. so what if the tank is big? its not gonna make a difference when you use a swinging type hydrometer or a refractometer.. It all boils down to water salinity being in that range. After all water is bound to evaporate and salinity is gonna go up 1-2 days after you measured and 'calibrated'. Not like the refractometer is gonna give you very very accurate reading and the water salinity is gonna stay that way..

go all out or just being paranoid? Having a 0.00X difference in water salinity is not gonna kill any LSs.

i mean if u not really like marine biologist those kind or expert reefers, no need refractormeter

marine biologist use that because the test water everyday or even every hour.. they need that precise data for their database and experiments... You doing experiments?

What's more.. the company pay what! Company big, got money to spend on such stuff, why dun use :P:lol:
