how many fishes in a 120 gallon tank?

hi everyone.

I'm keeping a total of 12 fishes, made of 3 anthias, 2 damsels, 2small tangs, 1 mid angel, 1 mid wrasse, 3 mid clown. with plenty of rocks, caves. are the amount of occupants just nice?

is there a guideline for no of fish vs tank size?

You may want to try this >> http://aqadvisor.com/AqAdvisorMarine.php but I feel that it is not perfect, just use as a rough gauge.

In reality there are a number of factors that the number of fishes that can be kept for instance,

  • the size of fishes
  • the number of inverterbates since they also contribute bioload
  • is it a FOWLR or reef aquarium - FOWLR in general can keep more fishes than reef aquarium
  • the effectiveness of equipments you have such as protein skimmer
  • and of course how much effort you are willing to put in for water change, weekly, bi-weekly, etc.
