led is a point light source, naturally, that will happen. if you don't mind wasting a few leds, I have actually came up with a diffuser system for leds, basically an epoxy/acrylic block that's epoxied on top of the led. the block is filled with some silver/aluminum/steel dust. old hard disk crashed, so I have no photos to upload. I may be doing some for my ATS light source though,

I have also tried using a bunch of fibre optics that's only compacted at the light input end and spread-ed out at the light output end. Works quite well but very expensive. Useful if you are lazy.

DE lighting sells some 90 degree lens for led, you can try that. Optional convex lens ¨C clear lens, striped pattern lens: (these will be sold separately). http://www.delightings.com/index.cfm?GPID=30&Print=1 . if I am not wrong, you may be able to find 120 degree lens in sim lim. I don't really like lens as it's expensive and not fun to use!

If you are wondering why I did not use light diffusers, try going to night safari with a frosted spectacles. Frosting reduces light intensity!

A slight rescape.

Just relocated a piece from the right and to make a taller left tower. So a big brother small brother effect achieved.

Tank looks more spacious too.

Regarding the exposed return pump, I'm planning to camouflage it with some gsp, or with the small frag of golden cloves I've reserved with Cedric. Hoping these polyps can conquer the PVC. Haha.

My lights are not here yet too. Haiz, i think this is a major reason I don't see coraline algae growth yet.

Is it normal for fan worms to cut their protective tube from above?

I planted 4 of them into the sandbed 3 weeks ago. As far as I tried, I could only get abt 2" of their tubes into the sand. About 2" were showing above the sand bed.

Every few days, I do notice a bit of their tubes (around 1-cm lengths) lying on the sand.

As of today, they are barely 1 cm above the sand.

Picture shows only 2 of them sun tanning.

Actually I like them this short.

But I just needed to quell my curious thought below:-

Are their tubes shed by themselves, or chewed off by livestock?

I currently only have a skunk cleaner shrimp, and 3 little fishes in the tank.

Oh, not forgetting 1 bristle worm I still can't catch, and maybe some normal rock-boring worms.

And perhaps got hitch hiker pest I've not been able to spot bah..

Feeding sun corals.

Made a small operational mistake by epoxying the colony at a steep angle.

It makes training feeding really difficult.

Have to cut a bottle at an awkward angle to isolate the feeding.

Did target feeding for 3 seperate times over the last 6 days. They still do not respond to the opening time I want. Haiz...

can drip line feed arh? i thought later the mysis will stuck when passing through the valve.

nope. not the normal way. firstly, have to defrost and mix mysis in tank water. place the mysis laden water into the drip line (the tube itself) using syringe or other suitable tools (mouth? haha). cover the other end of the line with your finger or kink the section that is near the other end. do not kink or cover too tightly, just enough to stop any flow. fill a syringe with tank water. Now, make sure flow control valve is fully open. Use syringe to slowly push mysis laden water past the valve. now, totally close the valve. hand the input side of the tube in the air or connect it to the drip bag. adjust the flow rate to your liking. Done!

If you want a finer control of mysis release, dilute the mysis with more water.

i was think of.. Tube - Valve - Tube

1ST TUBE (Aquairum Water) - Valve - 2ND TUBE (Aquarium Water with mysis injected)

1st Tube Is to gain water flow so wont break the so called siphon

Valve controls the 1st tube flow to push out the 2nd tube consisting of mysis

But one problem tho.. i dont think dripping inside a tank will work.. it cant push the drip out of the tube..

haha, basically, open the valve to let mysis flow through, load the mysis into tube past the valve, close the valve in order to retain mysis in tube, add water to flow out the mysis.

what valve are you using anyway?

Oh, i am using iv flow restrictor. But theoretically should work for your case.

Pull out plunger, connect your syringe to the tube, add water to syringe container. Place syringe container higher than tank in upright position to gravity drip

Received new lights from a bulk purchase. Eshine LEDs. 2 units of Aquawahers 10x3W each.

DIY Project 5 - Moonlights!

After installing the new LED lights, I used a 3-way timer to control on / off, trying to simulate sunrise, high noon, and sunset.

But this timer, the manual override, is full-on & full-off.

So if I want to check stuff in the tank after lights off, the full blast of lights usually scared the livestocks and made them jump.

Then an idea struck me. Moonlights.

Went shopping for one. None fits my ideals, even though they're only $20+.

Just then, I also find 2 units too obstructing for my 1' wide display tank, therefore I decided to hang the lights.

Went to buy a strip of cabinet lights (blue) from SLS. pondering over 3 LEDs, 6, or 9.

In the end decided on 9 LEDs. ( kinda regretted as I found it too bright for a moonlight). Anyway I'll be cutting 3 pcs of the LEDs away tonight to make it less bright.

Mounted the LED strip on the washers, and this is how it looks.
