Dry Cube Tank

Recommended Posts

Hello bros,

I have a spare 12mm thick 2' cube tank with cabinet. It had been left dry for almost 3 years. My question is it safe to use for marine tank after so long dryness? If it is not safe, what can be done to re-condition it? I am planning to use it as mangrove refugium. Many thanks.

My tank setting:
Size : 48" x 24" x 24"
Return pump: 1 x Vectra S2, 1 x Eheim 1264
Skimmer: Skimz DC skimmer SV203
Lighting : Maxspect Razor R420R 160W
Chiller : 1hp drop coil compressor
Wave maker : 2 x Nero 5 , 1 x Tunze 6055

Top up : Tunze Osmolator Universal 3155

The problem for leaving it dry for so long is that the silicon seal may have dried up, thus causing leakage to the tank. You might wanna test the tank first by filling it with water and leaving it for a few days.

A fail safe method is to reseal the joints using new silicon.

Hi bro, thanks for the kind advice. If i were to reseal the tank mean using new silicon to overlap the existing old silicon?

Cut out the exposed silicone on all joints, seal with new silicone and cure for 1 week. ;)
