Red bubble algae

Recommended Posts

Morning all gurus!

Would like to consult all of you regarding this.

Recently my sump have been infested with these red bubble algae and it's getting out of hand.

I use to have just a little of it and it was still manageable. I will manually remove it. However, more and more seem to sprout and it's getting annoying.

Would like to know if you guys have any idea if there are anything that eats this algae? Or best solution?

Somehow I don't have this problem in my display. Just the sump. Any reason for this? Sometimes my power head from sump to display are also covered with these.

Sorry for the long post! Thanks in advance!

If not wrong your PO4 is high.More then 0.03 ppm. Try water change with DI water if your using salt mix.

Should go off once your PO4 drop back to zero.

Must physically remove the red bubble algae during water change.

Hi Mlee,

Check how's your Red slime algae problem? If there are no coral in your tank, you may try the Algone red Slime algae remover, I had it once in my tank and after adding Algone into my tank, Voila... all is gone in 1 week time and never been back since.

However, I do stress that proper housekeeping in reducing the PO4 and NO2/3 in the long run will eventually eliminate this problem permanently. Was told that Red slime is a process in maturing of tank and that all tank will get it eventually (oni key is when), Reckon your tank shld be abt 6mth to 1 yr?

Hope this helps.

Regards,
