The screen is 6x4 and the LEDs are 5x 3W

I left it for 3 weeks coz I was outstation then holiday. The great thing is that the algae at the back did not die off, probably due to the strong LED light penetration. The total weight of the algae is about 165g

!!!

Probably the most growth I've seen yet on a 4 X 6 UAS scrubber.

where's a good place to start to get all the materials for this brilliant idea?

Well the screen is at craft or sewing stores or online as "plastic canvas". The rest is just a box, sliced airline, air pump, light, and reflector (or LEDs) :)

I've cut/paste from the PM i've send to a reefer..

I bought the plastic boxes (x2) from sim lim

Plastic white screen for the algae to grow at Spotlight at Plaza singapura, near the art/craft area.

LED I bought from aquastyle

5 x red LED - http://www.aquastyle...LED-3W-Red.html

1 x LED driver http://www.aquastyle...35%252d700.html

1 x big heat sink to mount the LEDs and superglue directly onto the heat sink. The LED is shaped like a star so I apply the glue at the tip of stars while putting the heatcompond at the center of the LED star and press hard onto the heatsink. Then wire up/solder all the LED in series and connect to the output of the LED driver. Heat sink and heat compund I bought from Sim Lim as well.

I bought 2-way air pump, the strongest I could find, (around $25 type)

I bought the soft air tubes and hard air tube. Soft air tubes can be bought anywhere. Hard air tube I bought from 1 fish shop in front of Sim Lim Tower. Also bought the suction cup to fix one of the box onto the inside of aquarium glass (water area).

The hard air tube I drilled a few small holes and put at the bottom.

After 3 days. Nothing come out... ... ........... :big_boss:

Did anyone know what is the reason behind for some tanks, the algae grow less than 2 days. but some tank need to take longer time ??

Give it more days to grow.

The algae will grow faster in a good condition, such as suitable lighting, strong bubbles and water flow, nutrients(nitrate and phosphate) and rough screen.

.
My name is ??

I have DIY a Algae Turf Scrubber. It really work. I am so happy that my headache are gone and i started to enjoy my tank instead of "fire fight" for NO3 and PO4 everyday. My NO3 from 50ppm to 3-5ppm and i started to keep some corals in my tank too.

hahaha.. but the algae grow on the sump tank 's glass instead of the screen. Weird...... haha....

After switching to a bigger UAS 7" x 7" screen, my algae is also growing on the tank wall instead of the screen. Upgraded the lights to 9x3W red LEDs to cover the area, which rightfully is sufficient for this screen size. The air pump seems a little underpowered though.. Bubbles are only able to cover 3 quarters of the 7"air tube. Your thoughts SM?
