Hi folks, my 60-litre nano has one wavemaker, and two hang-on filters (one chemical, one mechanical).

My rocks are always covered with a thin layer of fine dust/detritus. I brush it off, but it returns within a day or two.

My wavemaker is pointed upwards, at a 65-degree angle. It is 3-4 inches from the sand.

Appreciate some advice.

Yup, the only way is to suck it out using a tube during your weekly maintenance.Cheers!

yup i guess. the one "downside" of nano tank i suppose - u see everythng close up, incl dirt!!!

Protein skimmer? How will that improve the situation? I thought protein skimmer only removes liquid waste.

Protein skimmer ain't gonna work...

after awhile, u will realize they always end up at the same spot you might want to adjust your wave maker to change this "deadspot" somewhere else... Can help u asthetically but u still gotta suck it...

Hmm... So far haven't seen the skimmer pick up before, maybe really tiny ones but I could be wrong...

if wavemaker point downwards won't there be a sandstorm since it is such a small tank?

Only if the wavemaker is not strong enough haha... or maybe can get one slightly smaller one to point downwards

sandstorm will only make your water more cloudy and frustrated.

try directing your wavemaker to blow most of your dirt to a particular corner of your tank and when you do maintenance, it will be easier and less headache
