thairun
We need to significant number of mangroves in order for effective nutrient export, but again mangrove can be an interest additional to a marine tank Yes boss, IMHE 1sq foot tanks need 20 local mangrove stalk to be effective (bring down up to 5ppm No3). It is good to use red mangrove from Hawaii as this mangrove's root is fibrous producing 3-5 branches as compare to local one tapered root. Mean you no need much to cover 1ftsq say 5 stalks is enough. SRC Member MadScientist Posted June 26, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted June 26, 2012 Any form of filtration is better than no filtration. In a closed system, exporting nutrients are better than converting to another form. It depends on what you are measuring against. 50% water change beats mangrove hands down. Poorly maintained denitrator gets beaten by mangrove. Denitrators are notoriously teadious to optimise. If I were to choose one, I would choose mangrove over denitrator. The more complex the organism is, the better the ability to self regulate. Plant vs bacteria, plant easier to survive from poor maintenance.
