sheristopher
Hi Guys, Can I start a fish only marine tank with the following equipments that I currently have: 2" by 1.5" by 1.5" 6mm tank 2" normal pink color light Weipro 2013 hang on skimmer with a 1600l/h china brand pump normal overhead filter using 1200l/h china pump a small bag of ceramic rings a few dead "live" rocks Are the above items enough to start a fish only marine tank? I am going for budget spending. Subsequently if I wanted to go for reef tank, what else do I need minimally?
dnsfpl
you can ditch "normal overhead filter using 1200l/h china pump" "Weipro 2013 hang on skimmer with a 1600l/h china brand pump" should be sufficient for low bioload setup for reef tank, the first thing you need to change is your lights, at least to 2 x T5 cheers

SRC Member Zac Posted April 17, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted April 17, 2012 yup just take note of 1)salinity keep it constant at 1.025 ,top up with distilled water whenever needed. 2)water change is crucial for exporting of nutient. weekly 10-20% will be good. you should be fine then enjoy! sheristopher
I wanted to include skimmer hoping to reduce the frequency of water change beyond 2 weeks.
SRC Member raymus Posted April 18, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted April 18, 2012 I wanted to include skimmer hoping to reduce the frequency of water change beyond 2 weeks. IMHO Fish only Tank, with skimmer is fine to last thro 2weeks . Fishes tolerate higher NO3' Of course, it would be best to at least change water once a month. The crucial part is cycle your tank correctly for fear of losing life stocks.
