Noop
Can I use sudo bottom sand to replace reef sand?
Gouldian
Many years back, there will reefers who used glass beads 1mm diameter. They did this so as to ensure that they do not accidentally introduce pest into the tank. But this idea was not well receives as glass beads look un-natural plus - 1) Not porous to support higher beneficial bacteria colony, 2) Does not buffer and support pH unlike coral sand. I don't see any advantages in using Sudo as I believe they are pre-washed sands harvested for fresh water usage. These sands could be silicate/quartz based rather than carbonate base than we prefer. You can get corals sands easily and economically, If cleanliness is as issue and you do not want to wash the sands yourself. You could get those commercially packaged Live-sands - these tends to be cleaner (depending on brands) and they also claimed to have beneficial bacteria to assist in the start-up of your tank. http://www.madpetz.com.sg/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_133 http://freshnmarine.com.sg/estore/index.php?cPath=435_93 Hope that helps. Ingwe
I've been using sudo bottom sand with no problems so far, however please note that I have quite a lot of live rock and some coral chips in the sump to act as buffers. You might want to be careful with the cheaper quartz sand types tho, they seem to have ferromagnetic metals, that might harm your livestock and/or get attached to your magnetic cleaner and scratch the tank walls.
