My 2ft Nano Reef Tank

WoW, Great nano tank.

Thank you bro. I'm using a lousy $12 skimmer, not the high end ones that most ppl are using. Maybe that's why I can't keep certain corals, so i'm quite selective with my livestocks. What you see in here requires lower maintenance. I guess those solutions that i'm adding does help in providing the necessary nutrients and ridding the parasites.

I'm still in the midst of battling red slime, and lowering my phosphate to 0. Once that is achieved, will be using coarlline stimulator to grow purple algae.

lowering po4 can be attained my using Good Bye Po4 (Marine Life) and maintain by using PURA Complete Or Chemi-Pure + weekly Po4 dosing.. For red slime, diatoms right? i have not experience any.

For skimmer wise, me thinks u need too invest a little bit. U r using the IQ5 skimmer right? me thinks its not enough for 2ft.. I just change mine from Boyu to Dymax XP-30 to Bubble Magus E3. Sastisfied with the Bubble magus but not happy yet as micro bubbles coming out.. waiting for it to kick in..

I'm using a T5 light, one white one blue. Very low maintenance tank, running on a canister filter. But I still make sure that the livestocks get their nutrients such as Mg, Io, Strontium, Ca etc. Using liquid elements.

I like it simple and elegant.

Bro i really like your tank  can share with us what kind of liquid elements you use and how freduent you change your water ?

I am a newbie and have lot of questions, hope you don't mind sharing.

What is the % of your water change ?

What kind of salt mixed you use ?

What stuffs you use to keep the water clear?

after saying this, i went to my tank to check for diatoms.. eventually there is.. haha! Po4 is at 0ppm, need to get a silicate test kit 2morrow to test of silica.. keeping silicate down will ease diatom bloom.

Bro, thank you for taking interest in my setup. I'm using several liquid elements, mainly by brightwell aquatics - Mg, Iodine, Strontium, Calcium and Alkalin8.3.

Currently using Goodbye PO4 to reduce phosphate, and Sorb-4 resin by AquaPharm to maintain phosphate level at zero.

Using It's Clear! Florida Aqua Farm to bind excess suspended particles to clarify water.

Using RedSea Salt mix, and do about 15% water change per week, at least.

Yes Henry is very helpful. Must thank him by helping to post some good feedbacks on his recommended products. I'm not sure if you should get a bluestreak cleaner wrasse cos it is hard to maintain, fussy eater. If you don't mind its short lifespan, go ahead and give it a try, unless you are confident of feeding it.

bro, how u manage to keep anemone? i want to buy but like abit scare as ppl say difficult to keep it alive.

This is a rose tip anemone, very hardy and small enough to keep in my tank. I have killed a few anemones in the process, but this one is very lasting. It has already formed a symbiotic relationship with the clown. So i strongly recommend it.

i also have a yasha goby and pistol shrimp, another symbiotic pair in my little reef setup.

nah its ok already got a six line wrasse (super cute!) and a leopard wrasse. Thinking of getting an additional fairy wrasse as the leopard wrasse only hide in sand beds.

dunno lei, 50 - 50 to get.. of all the anemone article i read. Rose Bubble Tip Anemone and Bubble Tip Anemone are the easiest. But is it safe for me? tank only 2 weeks old, although all my fishes are doing good, even my flower pot coral is opening up.. still not sure.. how bro? any suggestions? to get or not to get?

anemone is not that hard to keep. by time bomb, I meant it keeps shifting around for no reason. Once it goes to your pump inlet, good luck to you, unless you have a skimmer that is rated many times more than your tank size.

There's many cases of anemones getting blended by pumps and the tanks have to be restarted. Unless you manage to find an anemone that doesn't move, you have a very huge tank, or maybe you have a skimmer that is rated for 1000L (with 70% reduction for SPS) for your 100L tank (which from what I know, I am the only one who did that before), it is safer not to keep anemone.

If you notice, most tanks with tons of expensive SPS or ls do not have anemone for safety reasons.

If 5g of uneaten food can cause an ammonia spike, imagine what 100g of liquified protein slurry can do to your tank.

i'll get an anemone after i bought a compact size wave maker most probably a hydor koralia... boyu wavemaker taking alot of space, its too big.. and the vent holes are big, can eventually suck in my turkey blaster.

An anemone who is happy in the tank should not be moving around too much. I have anemones who just wouldnt stay where they are. Yes, those eventually died. One even got caught in my pump. It didnt really mess up my water fortunately. But needless to say, the anemone died. The current one, so far, stays at the same spot. I've my fair share of different varieties of anemones. Seems that the rose tips ones are still the most managable. I also avoid anemones of sizes that are bigger than what I can handle.

So keeping anemone alive in a small tank is not impossible. Must make sure they are happy that's all!
