today men are stuck behind the socially accepted "macho" image while women behind "feminine" image. one thing tho, I think as always there are intrinsic differences btwn male and female, males tend to be more practical, so gifts given or received should be practical (unless its gadget-ty, in which case practicality is thrown out of the window), so when girls give gifts which aren't practical, it most prob won't be appreciated as much.

Well...my past gifts comprised photocopier, shredder, laminator not to mention the entry of my first tank... and of course...there's also the so-called 'feminine' gifts

And his gifts included laptops, palm tops, mechanical massagers...etc...

So practical enough?

IMO...it is the bonding and mutual understanding...it's the thought that matters and not the concrete gifts...

I think feminism does have some merits and points but as a focal point for launching anti-male campaigns is ridiculous. I can understand the need for equality and all, but ironically once you start demanding female rights, special female treatment (for whatever reason, whether simply cuz you're female, or cuz in the past there were great presumed prejudices so now you're "owed"), etc, this goes way beyond equality doesn't it? now it isn't a fight for equality, but a one up manship (no pun intended), now its women vs men. totally different emphasis and aim. yet its hidden behind feminism, downtrodden female rubbish. there are things like the outdated penal code protecting women's rights in the women's charter which downright biases the law against men, eg in divorce the man ALWAYS has to pay maintenance fees, even if its the woman's the reason for the divorce (extra marital, etc), even if the woman has more pay than the man (if any at all). so its a bit hypocritical to "fight" for female "power" etc. anyhow I"m ok with feminism like I said, nothing wrong with wanting to improve one's lot in life. but I think actual societies formed just for this is damn stupid.

I agree that anti male campaigns are out of the question and thats taking things a bit too far but women have always been deemed the weaker ###### in society and subjected to all kinds of abuse. Ever heard a story of a man being raped by a woman? Infidelity rate higher on a womans end then a mans? Wife abuses husband? These are just to name the basics. Can you sense the resentment towards the male society? These women were not so fortunate like some of us here that don't have abusive husbands/boyfriends and AWARE is for women.... I don't know about the people out there but I do feel their pain. By the way...I've not been abuse before..... I think it takes a woman to know exactly what all of aware is about.

AP: I disagree with you, that's stereotyped, that women are always the weaker mistreated party. you can't use a stereotype to justify any action. that's essentially the same as racism or any form of discrimination, like "oh they are ALL like that anyway, so I am justified in treating and viewing them ALL like that." I have a fren who many yrs ago while in the police during NS would receive calls of spousal abuse, and the caller was the poor husband at his wits end with his wife physically abusing him. besides just how many subservient wives do you see these days? As for rape, men who get raped prob won't complain either cuz they see it as a blessing, or feel embarrassed. so maybe there are cases but no one knows? anyhow my point is you can't use a stereoptype as a basis for any group or action, imagine this: if I can find enuff pple to believe in the same views as me, enuff pple for it to be an accepted stereotype, I can then by the same logic set up societies which advocate what I believe. so I can setup a dogs are danger to society group or cats are pest groups, etc. If AWA*E supported women's lib but only helped women who were abused, whether financially or legally, then I think that's great, but if they go around mouthing off anti-male or feministic views for the sake of their beliefs, then that's very wrong.
