Media arrangement for canister

I dun know if canister filters are made to act as a mechanical filter. but think you can put some filter wool as your first layer to filter off large pieces of gunk, dirt suspension etc to prevent them from clogging the pores of your biological filtration media etc.

It would be good to add some filter wool too. In my opinion. Otherwise when it draws any suspension or it'slike from the water, they dirt migt clog up the pores of your biological filtration media and render it inefficient. chemical resins might also get dirty and compromise their efficiency. Thats just my opinion. You can do it your way. :erm:

For 1st layer better to put filter wool for mechanical filtering.

At the last stage, put a layer of fine filter matt after the biohome to purify the water of any dirt/dust suspension from the filter mediums to polish water for unparalleled clarity.

Suggest u change the chemi-pure to Seachem: Seagel !

Seagel: SeaGel™is an efficient blend of MatrixCarbon™ and PhosGuard™. SeaGel™ removes organic and color impurities, phosphates, silicates, toxic metals and acids. Both components are bead shaped for optimum water flow characteristics. SeaGel™ is ideal for reef and marine aquarium use, particularly for algae control.

PLEASE NOTE :

Do not use activated carbon together wif chemipure as it not onli renders yr activated carbon useless... chemipure n activated carbon will oso react together which makes yr fish(es) in tt tank feel uncomfortable!!

If you could bear with me and please correct me if I'm still wrong on my arrangement.

I'll start bottom first (1st Basket - inflow) and work up upwards..

3rd Basket: Fine Filter Matt (Poly Filter??)

Bio Home

2nd Basket:Bio Rings

1st Basket: Normal Hard Fliter Wool

Which basket would I put Seagel ?

Thanks in advance.

For 2nd Basket: Seagel

Since u already have Biohome to house beneficial bacterial, you do not need for any bio balls/rings.

Biohome has massive surface area and is available as a habitat for bacteria to degrade nitrogen compounds.

Adopt chemical filtration for the 2nd Basket.
