Is it possible to grow corals at room(29C) temperature?

Hi Bros,

Just a quick and curious question is there a way to grow some corals at room temperature?

And if I do use a fan is it alright to only switch it on for about 12 hours a day? Are there other non-electrical alternatives to cool my little 4 gallon tank? Would like putting in a bottle of frozen water do well?

I do not think we can keep corals at room temperature. Best to have a chiller.

You can try Blue Ridge Coral (Heliopora coerulea), they thrives in 29 degree Celcius.

Its family were the dominant corals before the Ice Age.Their demise and extinction of all its relatives came after the massive cooling of the seas during the last Ice Age. The only survival is H. Coerulea which are found in a narrow band of tropical water along the equator. Scientists believes that with Global Warming, we may see the revival of its relatives.

well, i have kept corals at room temperature before, i wouldn't say its not doable, i have since gotten a chiller. the challenge is avoiding huge swings in temperature and whether your tank is stable enough.

you can on the fan during the day time, during night time the temperature will be cooler so perhaps you can turn it off, but then again you have to monitor the temperature swings at night.

putting a frozen bottle of water would cool it down, however for a 4 gallon tank a bottle of water floating in it would be very unsightly. and also you have to monitor how much the temperature drops after adding the bottle water.

as you can see, its quite troublesome without a chiller, that's why many people recommend a chiller. however if you place the tank at a spot where the temperature is stable and/or manage to maintain the temperature somehow it should be alright.
