Try switching on and off your lights repeatedly. It should close in shock.

Else is to try touching it. It should close if not dead.

Sensory bring it close to your nose and it should not gives you a bad odor

Once the inner flesh came off, it will starts to rot. If it doesn't open or close, think it's gone.

From my exp, another way of knowing if something is wrong is when you see shrimps or pest eating it or picking it.
