Mazarra S or Radion

Hi all,

I have decided to come back after 4 years of leaving this wonderful hobby. I am going to set up a 3x2x2 rimless with sps and lps mixed reef. Did some research and still considering to get LED of t5. If i were to get t5, ATI will be my choice and no doubt about it.

For LED I am considering between Mazarra S and Radion. Seen the Radion demo at Iwarna, I am impress. I was told 1set of Radion is able to cover the entire tank and it cost slightly more than 1k which is about the same price as Mazarra S (3 module at 150w). I am skeptical about the coverage from sigle unit of Radion, anyone can advise on this? For Mazarra S the down side is it has less feature compare to Radion, however I don really find the features are absulote necessary. I feel it is good to have features like storm simulation and etc. but it does not affect the health of the corals dirrectly (correct me if i am wrong).

My main concern are whether the light set can provide growth and health to the corals and fishes, and whether it can have a good coverage to the entire tank.

Really need advice from guru here.

Thanks!!

Hi bro,

My tank is same size as your and I can tell you that 1 radion will definitely unable to cover entire tank at the height of 8-10" which is recommended by ecotech. If you rise up the hanging height, PAR will be compromised. Imho, go for 2 sets if you want full coverage.

According to DE website,180w P series (3 modules) is SGD2220 so 2x Radion still cheaper lor.

I read it wrongly, I am looking at the 2 module one at 120w...

Anyone has experience with this light sex? Is kinda new in the market I presume...

But DE, Razali recommended 3 modules for 3x2x2ft tank so 2 modules may not enable to have full coverage.

  • 3 months later...

I personnaly own 4 radions on my 130cmX100cmX65 (water level @60), 1 on each side & 2 in the center, you can find a picture of my last update in the Radion owner club of the reefcentral (& some old pictures with only 3 at http://reef.lecaroz.name). 2 to cover 100cmX33cm is in my point of view the minimum if you want a minimal level level light acceptable for your eyes. For sure it could work with less for corals but don't forget the visual effect ;)

I hope that my feedback will help you in your choice

Louis
