DIY Stream idea

Hi bros ... was thinking and this idea pop up to me

I was thinking abt the way Tunze stream works that is diff from other

PH. Basically, it is putting its propeller (ie fan) at the front end

to create the output "stream", rather than a concentrated fet of water.

Idea to those whom like to DIY.

Install a fan like device (make of plastic, PVC basically reefer safe

material) infront of the main return pipe. The force from the return

water will push into the fan and cause the fan to turn. In return, the

fan will create the "stream" like effect output. :P

Sounds easy, but dunno can work anot.

Anyone know where to buy plastic propeller???

Maybe can take from handheld fan ;)

hmmmmm ....... :snore::snore::snore:

It's good to have the idea... its been asked before already.

Do a search here in SRC... you will see some of the wacky ideas and experiments done by some of us already! ;)

Go sim lim buy a small (those really small) DC fans, rip out the electronics and there u have your propeller...

Only problem is that the output might be slowed down..

How exactly does the stream work anyways?

From what I observe, the stream is working juz like one of those

fan sold in the shopping center that can keep a ballon floating in

mid air. There is no fix inlet for water (like other ph) as it sucks

in water from all around it.

Y i neber think of that

You need a fair amount of power to overcome the water resistance... you also need a shaft that will not corrode.

My Reeftec (which came out before the Tunze Streams) uses a LG pump with stainless steel shaft. After a year of usage... the shaft would break.

Also, you need to get the right kind of propeller, or you'll be ###### in water! ;)

The Stream uses a prop to move water while your idea uses water to turn a prop! Our dear Joe_P came up with this idea that doesn't work a long time ago!

Hijacked from Spade posting.

the reeftec and stream uses the propellor to push water..ur version uses water to push the propellor!!hahaha...doesn't that act as a constrictor???

Jus thinking aloud, it would work because the force of the water is

hitting the pro at 90 degree (ie perpendicular).

What if we threaded the interior of the pipe, (like a gun barrel) so

that the water exit in a swirl and hitting the pro at an angle????

Don't remind me of that incident. I was laffing my @$$ off when I saw the post. Maybe you got the idea from his science lesson, painting each fin with primary colour and when it spin, you get white colour instead :P

logically.... it's just silly and what a waste of energy if you are using water to push a prop (to push water? huh? or let water flow around the prop after utilising a lot of the energy to make it turn)... JUST use a prop to push water!!

Can the idea guys... use your brain cells somewhere else! ;)

Hmm.. interesting idea. Well for plastic propellers, you can try the hobby shops where they carry those remote controlled boat/water craft. It comes with the motor too (not cheap), not sure abt the cost as i'm out of the game for quite a long time..

Cedric... long shot indeed.

Impellers have blades made of straight flat pieces of plastic.

The reeftec and stream propeller blades are shaped like real propellers similar to boat or airplant propellers or like fans. They are made to 'scoop' air or water and push/pull it in a concentrated area.
