Does cleaning the skimmer body help with skimming efficiency?

I'm growing chaeto in my sump so the insides of the skimmer has algae (brown and coralline), wonder if that affects skimmer performance..

I'm not too sure about the skimmer body, but cleaning the neck regularly definitely makes a difference in skimming efficiency.

I'm guessing the algae growth is due to your chaeto lighting in the sump. I use an opaque piece of plastic in my sump to block the light.

I'm using black acrylic sheet to block the light too.

Some of the latest model of the Deltec skimmer come with the option of a manual or self cleaning head to enable you to clean the skimmer neck regularly. Accordingly to them, the fat and protein deposit on the neck will affect the efficiency for the foam to climb up to the cup, thus it is advise to clean the neck regularly to maintain optimum efficiency.

yeah.. cleaning the skimmer neck does improve skimming efficiency.

I'm not sure about the skimmer body though (mine is a cone skimmer and cleaning the body can be difficult)
