Cheap rotary hobby tool

I am using dremel. Personally i find dremel seems to be more solid in design and grip and has a variety of attachments and support like flexi shaft, benches etc. Depending on your applications, 5000rpm will give you more control at slower speeds. Most of the ranges are 10000 above for cutting etc. Can try Sg tooling see if better prices as they have a wider range.

hi bro, thanks for replying. Yes i went through sgtooling but cant decide which is best for my applications. Basically either Proxxon, Dremel or B&D. Only Proxxon has 5000rpm. If i use 10,000rpm will acrylic be easily melted at that speed? or is it manageable if I go it slowly. I am drilling holes and cutting arcylic more often

2 Feet Tank: (Decom Feb 2015)
-Lightings : Pharos LED light 90W with wireless controller
-Chiller : Arctica 1/10HP with H2Ocean Flow Pump 2000

-Wavemaker : Vortech MP10ES
-Skimmer : Bubble Magus NAC 3.5

-Return Pump : Eheim Compact 3000
-Reactor – TLF150 (Mod) with NP Biopellet
-Reactor – TLF150 with Rowaphos

If you are an expert, higher rpm can be used for acrylic, but need to be precise in force application and timing. For novice, low rpm is better and easier. Glass must use low rpm with wetting. High rpm will shatter glass.

I prefer proxxon. Dremel feels like those cheapo rc cars in mustafa. Proxxon feels like rolls royce turbine engine on a rc car.

Remember, rotary tool cutting is about using the speed to cut, not using force from user. Don't try to 'dig" into the material while cutting

I had an dremel, regret not getting the proxxon

is it due to the speed or torque? So far I've read and it comes down to precision for proxxon as it has a slower speed.

in terms of failure rate, dremel seems to have improved alot.

I just saw a new model of dremel 3000 abt 129$ with the flexible hose. thought it is a gd bargain but decide to do some more research.

If looking one for fragging purpose.. You may try Dremel Multipro with diamond cutting wheel. ~5 x cheaper the cost.. Cheers..

I've called n ask sg tooling.

The only diff I see is dremel got the flexible shaft. Proxxon don't.

By the way one important info. Dremel is 6mths warranty. Proxxon..... 24mths!!!

I asked twice in case I heard wrongly.

So I dun know why such vast diff.

Btw, I think u can get the flexible shaft n fix it to your power drill. I going get one n try out. If fail I will buy the proxxon

hi guys, I got myself a no brand 'dremel' tool lately recommended by Bro Hwee. In fact it is quite good, have so many accessories untill I dunno some are for what purpose. Flexible shaft included. IMHO if it is for light usage this is more than enough for me.

-Lightings : Pharos LED light 90W with wireless controller
-Chiller : Arctica 1/10HP with H2Ocean Flow Pump 2000

-Wavemaker : Vortech MP10ES
-Skimmer : Bubble Magus NAC 3.5

-Return Pump : Eheim Compact 3000
-Reactor – TLF150 (Mod) with NP Biopellet
-Reactor – TLF150 with Rowaphos

Got proxxon n the flexible shaft. at least can isolate tool from the debris generated. Doing a small boxed up with transparent book wrapper as a containment unit while fragging.
