Replacing my T5 to leds qns

Recommended Posts

hi guys,

i need some help.

currently im using 6x39 T5 to light up my tank which is total 234W.

will i be able to sustain my par if i change this to 40 cree LED? which is 120W.

the specs are 60W using CREE series 10 3watt XP-G R5 8000~10000k white, 10 3watt XP-E D3 455nm Royal Blue with 80degree optics

my purpose was to reduce my house bill and also because it was almost time to replace all my 6 tube and i found out a the 60W led fixture cost about the same as buying 6 ati tubes.buying 2 fixture and i dun need anymore tubes buying.

i was thinking should i spend the money replacing all 6 tube or bite the bullet buy 2 fixture.

my concern now is the whether 40 cree led is able to replace 6tube without losing par.

What corals are you keeping ? my advice to you is to do the switch slowly and try it out maybe with a mixture of T5 and your new LED and slowly removing all of your T5 if you feel the T5 is good enough ? The sudden switch may shock your corals and cause it to bleach .

Hi, I was a T5 user and had great success using those several years back. I since stopped reefing due to commitments.

I am thinking of starting another tank soon and is also looking at LED lightings for the new tank. I would also like to ask the same qns as the original thread starter.

You were saying the cost of the LED fixture is same as replacing with ATI tubes, may I know where can I find these LED fixtures?

According to what I have researched, the par is not the problem. SPS can thrive under these LEDs as what I have seen on other threads. But, the overall look might be different. Like the look of T5 is different from MH.

Also, as I like to keep softies as well, I'm worried about the Ric under these LED lights. How about Zoa? Can they do well under LED?

LED really has quite a few advantages that are hard to beat.

Sorry to tag along!

Based on my few months of observation after converted to LED from MH light, the LPS responded well to the new lighting... as for SPS, it will depend on the types of the coral... In general, I am able to get good colour, in fact better colour for purple and green staghorns. However, I got mixed results with Millis..

It might still early for me to make the conclusion....just two cents of my input... :friends:

Same observation.

Purple ,green seems to do well under led.

Pink, red and blue seems to have some problem.

Turquoise is like blue-to-green color. If mixed with red and royal blue, it going to bring out the fluorescent pigments from orange and reds corals :eyebrow: .

Btw, mind sharing wat type of LEDs are you using? And what is the combination like?

My main LED System - 312W LED Light set (3 x 30W 15000K Superwhite LED + 36 x 3W White + 36 x 3W Blue + 6 x 1W 403 NM Violet)

3W White LED two types:

1) 18 x 3W (pure white) - 6500K 180-200lm 3.0-3.4v 700mA

2) 18 x 3W (cool white) - 11000-12000k 180-200lm 3.4-3.8v 700mA

3W Blue LED three types:

1) 12 x 3W Blue 445-450nm 30-45lm 3.7-3.8v 700mA

2) 12 x 3W Blue 450-460nm 30-45lm 3.7-3.8v 700mA

3) 12 x 3W Blue 460-470nm 30-45lm 3.4-3.8v 700mA

6 x 1W violet LED - 400-405nm 3lm 3.0-3.8v 350mA

3 x 30W HighPower White LED - 2700-15000K 2700-3000lm 30-36v 1050mA

BTW, I am thinking of the following supplementary lights to replace my 8 x 39W T5...

8 x 3W CREE XPE Blue

8 x 3W CREE XPE Royal Blue

4 x 3W CREE XPE Red

4 X 3W CS UV
