Help on Stocking and bioload

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have a 4x2x2 ft tank and a 3ft sump + skimmer. Some corals of my tank are doing extremely fine, while some are not. Fishes seem to be doing fine as well. My water parameters are at the acceptable level. Salinity is at 1.024 and temp at 25-26deg.

This is the amount of fishes that I have currently:

3 blue tang(1 big 2 small)

2 yellow tang(1big 1 small)

1 kole eye

1 moorish idol

1 flame angel

1 maroon clown

1 scooter

about 10 cleanup crew(snails and hermits)

Recently(2 days back) my friend had to "hotel" his fish in my tank

while is another additional

1 Percula

3 chromis

1 bicolor

1 algae blenny

I am afraid that my bioload is too heavy. i.e. It's overstocked at the moment. Anyone can give some advise please!

Define "My water parameters are at the acceptable level"?

PO4,NO3,NO2??

Reefing is sharing. People with rotten mouth is sure a loser for life as expected. When a tomato gets rotten, you can nvr save it.. Throw it away before it infect the good ones.

Hi bro,

my P04 is around 0.3-0.4

also for my NOs, I can't get a good reading of them because the colour does not appear on the colour chart. As in if it much lighter than the lowest level, so I believe it is fine.

i feel it is overstock for a 4 x 2 x 2 tank with 16 fishes esp with big tangs .. However that will depend on the equipment you are using as well, if you are running a large over sized skimmer with plenty of bio filter media, it should be ok. Just continue to monitor your ammonia level and PH , since these are critical ...

However, with an increase in bioload you will see your phosphate and nitrate level start to rise faster, maybe you would need to do more water change and feed lesser/ smaller . But if it is just temporarily holding the fishes for your friend it should be ok.

And last maybe u like to define some corals that not doing well?

What lighting u using ?

Example: For zoas. Different zoas like different lighting and flow. SPS needs high lighting..

So it's difficult to see what problem it is.

Sorry for the late reply,

I'm using 8 x T5 tubes, 4 white 4 blueplus(Is that too much white)?

The ones that are not happy were my bubble, shifted them around again a little and they seem to be doing better.

Now the ones that are being unhappy are my gonios and zoas. My zoas seemed to have gone into permanent "hibernation". Guess I'm gonna move them around again to see what's wrong.
