Need help to decide on bigger tank

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am currently keeping a 2 ft tank for a year plus , now I am thinkng to change to a 4 ft tank use as a divider in my living room,

My chiller is teco 1/10Hp

Max spect lighting is G2 110W

DI/RO unit for distill water

The rest of equipment is as follows:

Here are the few question

1) What are the equipment I can use back and what are the equipment I need to upgrade

2) To fill my new tank with water it is not possible for me to run the DI/RO unit whole day as the unused water will be alot, if I buy NSW, how much and do they do delivery?

3) What are the media to put in my new sump tank compartment?

4) what size of return pump need to use ?

5) what sepcification of wave maker is recommneded?

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks

Yr chiller needs upgrading.

Ehiem return pump can be reused depending on the flow rate. If is 1260 to 1264, still possible, other than that might may not be ideal and used for other purpose like fluildiser, etc. however, it will also depend on yr tank design with single or dual return.

Light needs add on.

Media will depend on yr preference and design.

NSW has delivery and price ranges from 50 to 120

Return flow rates will depend on wat u keep but in general 3000 l and above with little head loss. 6000 and above might be too strong.

Wave maker, 5,500 to 12,000 and depends on yr placement, quantity and tank return pipe design.

Tank : 4 X 2 X 2 with low iron front panel and external overflow

Skimmer : BK SM200 with waste collector

Return Pumps : Red Dragon 6m3 and Ehiem 1262

FR : 2 X Deltec 509 & powered by AB2000

Nitrate Filter : Deltec NF 509 and tee off from AB2000

Calcium R'tor : Deltec PF 501 with RM secondary chamber

Kalkwasser R'tor : Deltec KM500

Chiller : Pansonic 1 HP Compressor with 20m titanium Coil

Wave Makers : 4 X Tunze 6055 with 7096 & Vortec MP40w

Controller : GHL Profilux

Lighting : ATI Powermodule 10 or 8 tubes

Water Top-up : Water Top-Up tank powered by Tunze Osmolator

External Monitor : American Pinpoint pH and Temp. Monitor for main tank and GHL Profilux Controller to measure temp, pH, Redox

Ozonizer : Sander C50

UV : Corallife 6x

Algae Scrubbler

1) What are the equipment I can use back and what are the equipment I need to upgrade

- You can use back you light and pump ( maybe for your FR or new chiller) since it may not be sufficent as a main pump for your new tank.

2) To fill my new tank with water it is not possible for me to run the DI/RO unit whole day as the unused water will be alot, if I buy NSW, how much and do they do delivery?

- You can also consider ordering bottle RO/DI water , if not consider filling it up with NSW which irwanna provide .

3) What are the media to put in my new sump tank compartment?

- Bio filter media to culture bacteria , i.e ; Bio ring, bio home ect...

what size of return pump need to use ?

- it depend on the tank size for your new tank which determined the overall water volume of your system. Ideally, it should be 6 ~ 10 x turnover with the higher the better especially if you intent to keep SPS.

what sepcification of wave maker is recommneded?

- it depend what you wish to keep in your new tank as well, if you intent to keep only soft corals and LPS a normal Non-controllable wavemaker is sufficent. But if you intent to keep more demanding hard corals SPS then you need a controllable wave maker.

Hope the above helps. Happy reefing friends.gif
