Can dead log be added to marine setup??

Hi all marine specialists,

I had just started cycling my marine tank . It will be a FOWLR .I had the intention of adding in dead log for decoration purpose . Will there be any adverse effects on the setup ?? Or had anyone tried or heard of it before ??

Any input will be greatly appreciated .

If it's marine driftwood it should be alright. Other than that...I don't think it is a good idea. Your water will end up brown and probably contain tannins.

wanted to do this long long ago . had replies about it affecting the PH of the water or something along that line

it will make the water brown... and affecting the pH..

unless the wood is petrified or has been soaked in water for damn long time already... meaning it's completely "seasoned" and naturally preserved...

If not the same stuff.. tannins, ph, brown water, etc problems will come in...

Well at least this is true for FW, not sure SW how but I think it's the same principal

i see logs mostly in FW tanks... still to see one in SW tanks... maybe i abit sua ku lah...

If not for these reasons... having wood in a marine tank is quite unnatural-looking.

But its not out of place for a malawi cichlid tank!

Haha actually put into wrong post .

It is actually a round spider like looking log ard 30cm looking like a inverted bowl with tentacles and hollow in the center . It was used for my LHs for 3 years and IMHO is already quite seasoned . Would test the water conditions and keep u'all updated . It would be a haven for smaller fishes if they are attacked .

But i would like to try it and might even be able to start a new trend if it is alright *cross fingers*

Looks like i have to remove them . Blenny any way of removing that harmfull tannin ??

the wood that is branched is not the normal drift wood. it is laminated.

I got the log off singapore's beach so it is not laminated . It is a beautiful natural looking log .

Thx ai[k2] and blenny for their valuable input . Arr where can buy the purge ?

Seriously.. don't.

No serious reefer would put a tree log in a reef tank.

And if it leaches acids into the water... you will have a hard time trying to keep PH up...
