Photography can be as poisonous as reefing man.

Tling, I used a Canon 7D and a Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens. Am not really up to date on the latest cameras out there and their specs, but I would suggest looking for one that has a high ISO setting. My 7D can go up to 6400 but some models can go even higher. The higher the ISO, the easier it will be to "freeze" motion using higher shutter speeds, otherwise the fish will look like a blur.

If are thinking of taking close ups, then obviously a macro lens is preferable as well.

You're welcome to PM if you want to discuss.

Yeah, forget about getting 30mm macro! Get yourself ultra wide or fish eye lens to capture your FTS.

hmmm... good idea. but i reckon i'll be using the macro more often to take corals and fishes leh.

buy the whole set then! :D

Btw I think 30mm is a bit insufficient if you want really nice close up. Not familiar with Sony DSLR, is that model a full frame or crop body? I think you should consider 60mm or 100mm macro

Sony NEX-5N is 1.5x crop factor which means your 30mm would be 45mm only. At that focal length you can't take close up like the pic on my signature unless the target you are shooting is very near the glass or water surface.

This setup is more for taking close ups on items you can reach readily. For e.g food or product photography where minimum distance is not a problem. For aquarium, the glass is restricting your close up distance unless all your gems are right in front

The NEX-5N has an APS-C sensor (cropped).

I agree with JeffL, if the macro lens is for corals and fishes, I think you will find yourself hoping you have a longer reach. Try getting 100mm macro.

yes i did.. changed all 3 TIR lenses and also took pics to compare.

pictures are taken with ATI switched off.

Radion colour configuration as follows:

white light 40%

royal blue 100%

blue 100%

red 0%

Green 10%

IMG_2269.jpg

DSCF0769.jpg

DSCF0778.jpg

conclusion:

light is more well spread. more surface area covered. no par meter to measure the intensity of light though.

Update on the holy grail. Finally some success on this challenging pc..

Body was a little brownish when I first got it. Now the body is getting more beige than brown and the blue tips are more intense and traveling downwards.

Good on you, Law. I still couldn't make it after do many attempts. The corallites are so thin and brittle , so sensitive, that I always had burnt tips and then the branch gone.

Now balance 1 left which I placed it at low flow, low light location. Not really growing nor color up. Hope it will not visit King Neptune.

Where do you placed your Scepter Echin ?

Good stuff and progress, Lawrence.

Mike, you might want to relocate your real deal echinata piece to a high light location as this will make the body turn white and the blue tips have a brighter colouration.

I have a frag of it which I place at a lower mid point of my tank but I can't place it higher due to a lack of available space.

Agree with honkit.

I place this in high light mid flow location and find it colour up best.

In fact I had broken my original frag into 3 frags when I first got it. I placed 1 frag each in low, mid and high location to see which one is best. The low light frag was the first to go.

Then the high light frag was coloring up nicely while the mid light pc was doing ok.. The side facing the light always seem nicer than the other side. So that's my conclusion.

Nice tank, any update pls. Thanks

have not been updating my thread cos encountered some problems with my tank. lost a few pcs of treasured sps...

adding to the list of problems that i already have is i suddenly develop a skin reaction to sea water and coral contact.

its very discouraging and the forbidden thought of 'discom' has crossed my mind. but I'm still hanging in there and hope to work things out.

on the other hand, its encouraging to see bros taking their time to read my tank thread.. thank you.
