Hello,

May I ask which Walt Smith SPS species did you select? Some species can and do thrive in captive reef systems and others will turn brown and eventually STN and die.

From my experience, Fiji s.hystrix, a.sameonsis, stylo, porites are the easier ones to keep colour and have growth. The tabling types (e.g. a.hyacinthus), microclados, tricolour validas, thick branch types (e.g. a.gemmifera, a.monticulosa) are very challenging to maintain colour and have decent growth unless your system water is very clean and flow is very strong and random. Naturally, stability, lighting etc is also a must.

peiseh.. not so good with scientific names. i bought an assorted WS including birdnest, stylo, staghorns and others. definitely some are more challenging than others.

these are some of the pcs from recent Walt smith shipment, not sure their names. do advise and give pointers so i can check if their current placement is right in my tank.

added a bio pellet reactor last weekend after visitng harlequin mania .. haha..

yes.. thats FR-45.

2800 but tuned down to minimum.. so i suppose should be equal to 2000.

I am not the best in species identification either but here's my take:

3) Humilis

5) Sarmentosa

8) Hyacinthus

9) Nobilis?

10) Sameonsis

12) Poccilopora

I have experience keeping the above except for a.nobilis. The humilis, hyacinthus and sameonsis need the most attention when it comes to light, random water flow and stable water parameters. A.sarmentosa is slightly easier and lastly the pocci is the least demanding of the lot.

RIP little black ice..

was feeding normally earlier the evening and 3 hours later found it swimming weakly at the corner of the tank.

quickly transferred to sump to recuperate but in the morning...

Bro cheer up, at least yours last for quite some time, mine pair game over after around 3-4 weeks in my tank, same as yours feeding normally then suddenly gone, when no fishes is disturbing them and all fishes are healthy, no sign of ich or anything.

Hmmm only the black ice game over. So far the die off rate of black ice like quite high, me and my friend total bought 9 pieces, now only 5 pieces still surviving. ORA do come in black ice also, never really hear about the die off problem, so maybe can try different source.

yup.. the colours are holding so far with good PE. waiting for my hanna checkers to arrive so i can do accurate testing.
