now all corals have light.. easier to scape also cos less areas have over cast shadows.

i use the ATI as a supplement.. so its only used for about 6 ~ 8 hours per day while the radions will perform the usual sunrise & sunset.

the tank now very bright and the colours seem to 'pop' out.... will take a pic tonight and post.

a customized pc of acrylic sheet to fit the 3 radions together. this way, each radion height, height and distance is uniform. no need to adjust string by string. so troublesome and time consuming.

many reefers are supplementing T5 with LED / MH. hope with this configuration, can turn my purple valida back to its original colour.

finally released my 2nd pair of clownfish (snowflake and black ice) after more than a month after i released the picasso pair.

sadly, the snowflake seems to have an eternal hatred against picassos. it was getting along great with the black ice in the betta box but once released into the main tank, it turned against the picasso and dominated their RBTA home. didnt want to share and also ignored the 2nd RBTA it hosted in the betta tank for over a month.

sigh.. no choice but had to remove the snowflake leaving the black ice. amazingly the black ice is more willing to share and now all 3 are hosting the RBTA together.

yes.. the black ice fuel chosen for me is really nice. matches my 1st pc very well..

after 1 night together, i noticed that the 1st black ice seem to be dominating the RBTA.. maybe just trying to show whose boss.

sure hope they can get along.

now i dont know if i will end up with 2 RBTAs in my tank...

not quite there yet bro. i have my challenges. i find it hard to maintain very dark blue and purple colours.

these are first shots after i just got the walt smit from thursday shipment. some didnt make it due to RTN.. a few STN hopefully will stabilise by this week. i hope i will be able to maintain the colours. will see a month from now.. *keep fingers crossed*

Bro this is what I heard from some senior not sure true or not. He mentioned must go and unpack the sps during shipment, if the Water in the pack is milky even if the colour is super nice, cannot take cause confirm cannot survive. If the water in the pack is clear then can take as they are not stress and high chance of survive. But whether can maintain the colour or not is another issue.

yes.. thats true. the past couple of walt smith / tonga shipments were ruined because of unforeseen delays in shipping hiccups. the water turned milky and there is a bad odour during unpacking. very low chance of survival. alot of people who cheong there to help with the unpacking were disappointed.

some other hardier ones (usually the less nicer ones) could have higher chance of survival but Iwarna refused to sell the corals and declared total loss for whole shipment.

Even for those who arrived later after the unpacking were turned away.

but then again, assuming all conditions remaining ideal, some walt smith corals are more sensitive than others to stress. some corals (unfortunately usually tend to be the nicer ones) cant take the stress of transport and packaging and will start to degrade. so buyers need to observe carefully before deciding to take that pc. but then again, sometimes cant see the STN till few hours later put in tank. its a risk we take regardless for corals or fishes alike.

final part to the clown saga

after spending the past 2 weeks in the betta box bonding with the anemone, i decided to move my final pair of black ice into the main tank. it is decided that i will have 2 RBTA in a tank.. bo pian.

anemone is attached to a rock in the betta box.. so the whole rock is moved.

then place the clown fish near the anemone 1 by 1

final result....

we all know the anemone is going to move.. just hope it steers clear of the wave makers..

thats a good position.. its in the front of the tank under a rock and away from all wavemakers. lets hope it stays there permanently.

May I ask which Walt Smith SPS species did you select? Some species can and do thrive in captive reef systems and others will turn brown and eventually STN and die.

From my experience, Fiji s.hystrix, a.sameonsis, stylo, porites are the easier ones to keep colour and have growth. The tabling types (e.g. a.hyacinthus), microclados, tricolour validas, thick branch types (e.g. a.gemmifera, a.monticulosa) are very challenging to maintain colour and have decent growth unless your system water is very clean and flow is very strong and random. Naturally, stability, lighting etc is also a must.

That is absolutely correct. Of course, noting for signs of recession and stress such as basal STNing is also a must when selecting such delicate animals.

Having said that, I picked a tricolour valida and a jade green sameonsis from the WS shipment before the last one in March 2012 and they didn't arrive in the best of conditions due to a 24 hour delay in the flight schedule. As of today, they are recovering from shipping trauma where they had a browned out episode and now they are growing and colouring up. Lots of TLC needed for them
