Hon Kit's Reef Tank

Red gonioporas are fairly common and a variety of the goniopora species have red variations. I have three (one of which is not in my pics) of which they are Goniopora stutchburyi, Goniopora burgosi and Goniopora palmensis.

Sorry about your loss of the zoas.

You meant the green ones are more difficult to care for compared to the red ginos?

The more common green type is Goniopora stokesi which is far more difficult to cultivate in a captive system compared to other species.

Based on reefers' anecdoctal experience (and also mine), the green Goniopora Stokesi have a higher mortality rate compared to the red ones of other species.

My green gonio stokesi lasted less than a year until only a bare skeleton remained.

Your tank growth so matured.

Is your left side tank cyanobacteria or red coralline algae?

Cheers,

James

Actually there isn't much of a rock scape as I didn't use a lot of rocks. A large portion of the scape is actually formed by the corals themselves as they grew.

Beautiful SPS lagoon!!!!,,,,Bro, from the pictures your different SPS species almost touching each other, how you handle it?

Thanks gambits :)

Several of the sps corals are actually touching or even growing around or encrusting each other. My own carelessness resulted in my blue tort frag being burnt 50% by a table millepora due to encroachment and my kit Kat acropora meeting it's demise as a result of being squeezed between an a.prostrata and an encrusting montipora. Depending on species, I believe that relocation of some sps corals would need to happen as they grow. The staghorn acropora species are the best in terms of compatability as they tolerate each other without outright warfare resulting in burns and Stn/rtn.

Very nice tank and truly inspiring. A lot to learn from you.
Thank you sir. All of us including myself are learning everyday as we look at the inhabitants in our glass boxes and at others as well.

Amazing tank with excellent coloration if the corals. True inspiration. I like that you mentioned simple, as sometimes, that's really important in this hobby!
Once I found something that worked for me, I stuck to it without attempting to chase the latest methods or trends. I found a remark by a reefer made in an American forum to be very thoughtful - to have a successful reef tank, COPY what those tank owners do.
