Not easy looking at how you redo ..he have plenty of rocks scape equivent as you. Think having headache . Does your parameter better after you remove the underneath which traps alots of detritus ? What I observe, his sand bed traps lots of detritus. I just help him to remove the sand bed in his sump and clean up all pumps. Serve better but think problems still there. Any advise? What I observe, his sand bed traps lots of detritus. I just help him to remove the sand bed in his sump and clean up all pumps. Serve better but think problems still there. Any advise? Those days when I managed my 4 footer lps and softy, I did have this 1in+ sand bed. I have good growth for the beginning and then after a year N & P start to creap all calcifaiction stoped. No3 hovering at 20 ppm all the way no matter what I did and the very most down to 15. when you stir the sand bed especially under the rock areas you will be surprised how much the detritus trapped there. Since then in my 5 footer no more sand BB that it. Esy to maintain and blow out then siphon. With the starboard (my silly mistake) removed my water from 15ppm NO3 go down to 3ppm but this does not mean good as the sudden change of so much my zoas response no good. Changed shld not be rapid either good or bad IMHE. Like wish if he want to get rid out the sand pls do it in stages part by part. thairun
It had been sometime I had neglected my post. This is due to work family commitment as well as establishing the tank stability. Things look like coming to norm. For a continuation in this year update let me address some question from my dear members. Wat I can say thairun is really a very nice bro. Teach me so many things while I buy zoas from him. Hahax. And also let us his very nice zoas in a nice and fair price. Ya bro... He's generous in sharing his knowledge. A super nice guy... Thanks for the nice word bros, after all what is the members in SRC for......help each other right..in a reasonable ways. I have 6footer with 1 inch+ sandbed too. Running forb1.5 yr. My no2 read 0 but my no3 keep at high level. How to gradually lower it? By knowing your No2 and No3 we can conclude your tank had stable. No3 is the process of nitrification dont take it bad it good sign. What you have to do now is fine tunning and control the contribution of the nitrification process by mean of natural way or introducing denitrification process. Agreed with your statement lower gradually, any changes in marine tank drastically will invite disaster. Natural way is like introduce deep sand bed of at least 4in and this to be effective as big as or bigger than your whole bottom surface area. It will take at least 6 mnth nitrogeous process to settle down underneath the DSB. For your case it troublesome to add sand such a big tank. You may introduce ATS (algae turf scruber), algae and fauna in your refugium, even mangroves system like me one time in my initial setup. Other way is by introducing denitrification process. I had done one time used sulfur denitrator since the start of my laziness to look after the algae and fauna. It worked for me but it is dificult also to monitor the effluent coz of rotten egg smell. So I decom the process and introduced carbon dosing aka vodka as you can see those pics earlier in my thread (NO3 maintain below 2ppm always). Some may use sugar, viniger or any carbon source. But you must have a good skimmer to export out the byproduct of the denitrification that shld be dark sludge skimmate. There some website you can google tru for correct regimen of those carbon dosing. My case now am using bio-pallet aka solid vodka. Running it for more than six mnth but look like it insufficent and now introducing back little liquid vodka to support it. IMHE those carbon dosing will never get your PO4 down as you required so running any form of PO4 remover is mandatory, PO4 is the number 1 hard coral killer shld be maintain below 0.05ppm value all the time. Good luck. Now my SPSes coming back as well as other coral. On the way pls id them if you have any idea. Thanks Closed up Think pearlberry Quote Mix reef-Main tank 3x2.5x2.5ftA TI 3ft 8tube Hitachi compressor unit 1HP 1 x AP- 702 Deltec 1 x Coral Lab CR with Ph controller; 1X AquaMedic Kalk Reactor top off Baby fish dosing kh/Sr&Kcl/mg DI water thru kalkwasser 1 x Skimz Fr with BRS gfo 2 x Rio 32hF main pump 1 x Pinpt Orp monitor 1 X Pinpt Ph monitor Aquamedic wave maker Sump 3x1.5ft plumbed together with; 1.5ft cube live rock Frag tank 5x1x1ft
