Parameters to consider for lighting

Recommended Posts

Dear all,

I'm setting up a newbie 3-2-2 tank.

I heard that lighting is one of the most expensive parts for the setup. Hence I would like to find out more about it before making any commitment. Questions:

1) What are the different types of lightings available? Brands?

2) Pros and cons

3) Recommendation for 3-2-2 tank

Many thanks!

Hi, I wouldnt say lighting is the most exp. equipment, depending on what you want to keep and budget.

There are mainly three type of most use lighting LED, T5 and Metal halide they can range from 2-3 hundred to a few K.

You need to give more info what type system you intent to keep and your budget.

Hi Mrnano,

We intend to have a SPS dominated tank, a few LPS, depending on the fishes me n my bf is keeping. Havent really concluded on the fishes yet.

We have around $5k of budget altogether for the setup...

500 for chiller

500 for 2 pump

400 for lighting

400 for misc(rock, sand, salt, refractometer, testkit etc etc)
