"clam safe" fishes

I intend to keep a clam but is concerned that my angels will nip at it.

Do all angels nip at clams?

Dwarf angels, Genicanthus species of angels don't nip clams, holacanthus and pomacanthus may nip on clams

My experience is that dwarf angels will nip at the mantles. Especially if the clam is not so healthy. Try dropping some opened lala into your tank. your fishes will surely feast on them.

My flame and flameback cleaned out my crocea.

Yea if clam is healthy they won't touch, if it's dying most likely it'll be a feast, same goes for corals. If it ain't healthy angels and butterflies will feast on the dead part

Thanks for all the advice. Which species are suitable for beginners? Which species do not require very intense light?

All clams needs light any there aren't any species that are suitable for beginners. Maybe you'll like to share more about your tank specs

My tank is 3'x2'x2'. Presently I have a few angels (queen, blue face, flame and majestic) which I plan to sell as they may nib at the clam. I hope to get a squamosa as I read somewhere that it requires less light than the other species. I will install new led lights, just that I hope not to spend too much on lighting.

I've 2 crocea (3inch) and a maxima (1.5inch) in my 3'x2'x2. My current lighting is 6 tube T5HO (4 tube blue plus n 2 tube blue special). Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. 6 tubes of T5, 8 hours a day is quite taxing for me.

Any reason to choose a maxima, squamosa,or any other species, other than appearance?

Will wrasse feast on clam?

I have a moon wrasse seems to swim around my clam and sometimes will nip on it.

The clam was Hidden at the highest level on eggcrate but somehow i think both

the angels tackled it down n hurray on it.

Currently just left the shell,.. A new home for my yellowtail damsel.

Coral beauty may nip on the clam so probably not a good choice but I heard people who have no problem with coral beauty so it may be a personality thingy.

Coral beauty might nip, all depends on your luck on whether how your fishes behave. Btw anyone happen to see any clams selling at any LFS recently?

How about Flame Angel? currently i have one in my reef tank and i am thinking of getting 1-2 clams.

Same actually. Flame angels may nip on clam mantle so depends on your luck.
