recently i did a water change....i am using sea water so anti chlorine is fine....

however due to my high temperature at 28.5....i got to lower my salinity to 1.020-1.021....

that is when i realized i do not have any anti chlorine at home....

so i just added tap water but probably just equal amount to a pint..which is 0.125 gallons...and 0.473litres...will it affect my water or fishes???

and i also realized that when i add fresh water to top up evaporated water i often pour into my filter media...will it kill my good bacteria?

please help...

i have never been so crazy over a hobby......now you fishes are my next best friends!!!!!!

No, you should never add tap water without treating with anti chlorine first and yes, it will kill ur good bacteria if the tap water is not treated with anti chlorine.

3 Things you can do next time...

1. Use distilled water from NTUC or Cold Storage or 7-11. Preferably no/low sodium. (I use this to my tank btw)

2. Don't panic too much on changes on salinity. Your tank will surive the night.

3. Place tap water in an open container or bowl. The more expose to air the better. Chlorine evaporates when water is exposed to air. But you have to wait overnight atleast to do this. Of course, this is not the best solution and probably the all-fails solution.

I think Anti chlorine is still needed as nowadays chloramine are added to tapwater too.

Chloramine don't disspate like chlorine with overnight sitting.

If you are overly concerned about bacteria dying, dose some bacteria..

Cheers..
