Aquatronica?

Hi, been thinking about precaution against Chiller breakdown by simply installing a Temp controller that is linked to MH. ($200 plus)

Comparing against Aquatronica ($1300) and appreciate if users cab share their experience.

Questions:

1. Easy to use and reliable?

2. Practical purpose for monitoring ph and ORP. i.e. what actions do you take with the info.

3. Any other things to watch out for?

Thanks

I am an Aquatronica User.

1. Ease is quite easy, reliability in terms of reading various parameters depends on the reliability of the probes, which needs to be cleaned periodically.

2. Currently it allows you to read the following parameters

Temp

Salinity

pH

ORP (Redox)

While these are good to know, but they can be easily read off other alternate instruments easily, maybe except for pH which require reagent tests.

ORP isn't really meaningful as the probe for reading ORP could be easily affected by many variables.

It does not provide parameters readings which are more crucial to us like Ammonia level, Nitrate level, Calcicum level, kH.

3. If you looking for a temp control, maybe AQtronica is an overkill, with the money, you could buy more things.

I bought Aqtronica to sync my wave makers with lights to simulate certain night/ day patterns and also to control food dosing for my tank.

Some of the friends i have use it to keep track of temp fluctuations as AQtronica keep tabs of these data and present them in table forms, one of my friends bought the ethernet module and is able to track his tank parameters and other data thru his iphone while he is at work or away for travel.

Verdict: in my humble opinion, its a good to have, not a must have :) there is also another controller around known as the GHL profilux, I heard that hobbyist at Reefcentral prefer that more. You might wanna check it out.

 Care to share how U control Food Timer as most models available in market are battery-operated.

sorry for the late reply.

Perhaps I should be more specific,

I had a customized continuous feeding system which was fabricated by Joe_P.

I used aquatronica to time/switch on/ switch on an airlift pump which draws in water from my refugium into the feeding reactor.

The feeding reactor also has an outlet directed at the return pump, thus the drawing in of water from the refugium will naturally force the food mixture in the reactor into the outlet tubes and eventually enter the display tank via the return pump.

3 min prior to the switching on of the airlift pump, the aquatronica also switches on a pump which is attached to the reactor, this is to ensure that the mixture of food inside the reactor is more evenly mixed and not settled at the bottom.

I use the aquatronica to ensure there is this continous feeding in small dosages into the tank for a period of about 12 hours per day.

You could also use aquatronica to control grotech dosing pump to pump in food. Some food which does not require refridgeration from the Brightwell series or Kentmarine series are suitable for such food dosing.

But all the food i use are in liquid form, if you were thinking about pellets form, I am sorry to have misled u :)

Woh, sounds good. Care to share some pics so that we can have a better idea?

Sure, glad to share, but this was an idea by brother Joe_P, all credits goes to him, I am just but an end user.

This is a picture with food inside.

The mixture of food inside includes algae paste, cyclo, Coral Food & Supplements, (Ultra Clam, Ultra Min F, Ultra Min D, Ultra Min S, Ultra Seafan) garlic supplements, kentmarine C, Oyster feast, tigger pods from reef nutrition, rotifeast. I got all the food from bro Fuel/ Aquafuana. Mix all of them, freeze them and then drop 2 cubes into the reactor 2 times a day. The reactor has a cap on top which allows me to place food inside.

Sorry I can't seem to attach the pictures, apologies

Ah, I see. Sure is a wonderful continuous feeder. But does it requires lots of modification to the FR?

Apologies there, but i am an idiot when it comes to modifications or DIY, maybe I could get brother Joe_P to inform you, hopefully i am not dilluting the thread.
