Reccomend return pump flowrate

Just need to ask a quick question from experience bros here.

If the overflow box rating is 1200l/hr,what is the reccomended return pump rating if it has to go through a chiller.

Help much appreciated!

Below is a chart of Eheim pumps. A typical sump tank to display tank height is about 1.5m. Based on the 1260 line, it'll give you about 1400L/hr at that height. That will reduce to 1200L/hr or less if you hook it up to a chiller before returing to main display.

BTW, a 1200L/hr rated overflow box is really quite small. Is this for a nano setup?

yeap it is a nano/pico setup...planning on a 30litre display and a small sump(20litre or 40 litre sump)planning to use a rio 10HF or eheim 1250(abit high unless i get a good price off pasar malam thread)

A 1200L/hr flow in a 30L display will give you 40X turn over rate. That would be a little too much. A 1250 would give you a more normal 10X turn over rate, and less if you include the chiller.

by the way, where can i get Rio pumps? preferably as close as possible to e west.

A 3-2-2 comes up to about 320L in volume excluding the sump. Folks aiming for 10x circulation would shoot for 3200L/hr.

This 3200L/hr could be the sum of 1200L/hr(return flow) + 2000L/hr(wave maker)

This would translate to, for example, an Eheim1260 return pump and a Koralia 2 wave maker.

An Eheim1264 can also be used if you prefer higher flow rate going thru' your sump. But there're no hard & fast rules with these things.

Note: The stronger your return pump, the thicker your overflow pipe will need to be.
