FR problem

I have a FR that i ot 2nd and some time back. tried to turn it on today (without any media) but the water level kept rising till it overlowed. Is there some problem wif it or does it need media to work properly?

Is the rubber gasket/O-ring in place? the water should flow out from the outlet hose whether with or without media, if water leak out from the side means your gasket/O-ring is either not proper positioned, missing or harden :evil: !

mine dosent have any outlet hose. just a lid on top that has some holes in it. water goes all the way up and out of the holes and then overflow...

Before comment further....pls post the picture of the FR !
