SRC Member vinccc2009 Posted October 9, 2011 SRC Member Share Posted October 9, 2011 Anyone feed their anemone with dead fishes? I saw some LFS keep some fishes in freezer n cut them. Will it increase ammonia like leaving dead fishes in the tank without taking out?
SRC Member iskay Posted October 9, 2011 SRC Member Share Posted October 9, 2011 My opinion is that you can feed them any fresh or frozen seafood. Anemones are opportunistic feeders by nature, extending their tentacles to catch any food that they can. My experience seem to indicate that the food need to be of correct size in relation to its mouth. Anything smaller than 2 times the closed mouth is good. if the food is too big, the anemone will regurgitate the leftover after digesting enough food. This leftover should be removed at the soonest as not to pollute tank water. Overfeeding will also produce the same result. They should be fed once or twice a week. My own gauge is to wait until the anemone releases waste after a meal before feeding the next meal. this usually take a few days, thus once or twice weekly is about right. Do note that their mouth is also their a n u s. Quote "Be formless... shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle; it becomes the bottle.
