Diy led strip help

Hmmm ok i was planning on those strips in sim lim for diy. Anyone has a take on that or experience to share for coral growth as compared to t5 lights? Comparision is 2bulbs t5 2ft fixture which is 48 watts for both bulbs added. If led strips are plausible, please advice on number of bulbs per metre and how many strips and the ratio of white : blue? Thanks all!

Led strips are not advisable for coral growth, only for illumination purpose. The led strips is only about 3watt/meter.

Mind telling me who has successfully using those LED strips from SimLim ?

IMHO, those strips are to lite out the tank for viewing purposes which will not produce enough PAR to sustain any corals not to mention about coral growth !

If you want to DIY proper LED lighting, I would advice you to use CREE XPG or XPE 3W LED instead .

Hmmm thanks... which shop did u get the bulbs from? Do they do the wiring? Haha cause i got no experience in wiring and such...

it will be great if there is some sort of LED diy package that include all the necessary components

just like those little electronic proj for poly students

can be a simple one e.g 4PW and 3RB ...

so we can build our own light with the guide in the package and learn from there ...

I have tried searching LED diy package since 3 years ago and even now, none of local shop selling it .

Just bear in mind that DIY is very time consume and not cheap either if you want nice wrap up with Good quality LED and lens .

I'm not here to discourage you guy but better think and plan properly before head in !

You best bet is to buy from oversea like RapidLED located at US if you wanted DIY kit but freight charge not cheap hor !

i think is important to get familiar with the components first

the different type of LED available out there and things like lens, type of power supply

just like building a PC ... what cpu, motherboard, hdd, graphics card and etc

so if I dont know there are 2 cpu manufacturers and the different cpu, which motherboard to get and from which vendor, correct ram to use .... how to diy ...

if i'm only keeping mushroom, yuma, star polyp and zoa... water depth is 30cm max, do I need Cree/len?

For 30cm depth, you can use 1w LED or 3w(w/o Len). Try to get proven LED likes Cree, SSC or Philips LED if you still want to DIY.

FYI, i took some zoo, star polyp n mushrooms from my 3ft tank n dump it into the IQ5 since 2 week ago but none of them open under dymax Led lighting except mushroom. Even those mushrooms open widely but the colour seem dull compare to the one inside my 3ft tank. For my past experience, Yuma needs mid to high light to bring out the colour so dun buy it if you are using low watt led lighting!

they are just too weak and do not have enough PAR for plants and

corals.

If you are thinking of using LED to replace your present T5HO or

MH then use reptuable LED from Cree,SSC,Philip or Osram.

Also use 3 w or 5 w per LED for your light fixture.

Any thing lower serve no purpose.
