Tap Water

Recommended Posts

Its depends on the location. Anecdoctal hearsay states that Sembawang has the lowest TDS readings and thus the best tap water quality.

However, it is my firm belief that one of the best investments one can make for his or her reef tank is to purchase a quality RO/DI unit or get a supply of distilled water from a drinking water supply company.

Many algae outbreak occurences in reef tanks have their origins in tap water being used.

Lots of aquarists here relies on RO/DI. My tank is small so I currently use bottled distilled.

Singapore tap water meets and exceeds WHO drinking water guidelines. - http://www.pub.gov.sg/general/Pages/WaterTreatment.aspx

Double digit percentage of what comes out the tap is "reclaimed" water called Newater. *wink wink*

For tap water I think it is not only the TDS but also the chlorine that is inside, It is bad for a reef tank. RI/DO do remover chlorine also, so it is good to own one. =)
