To drill or not to drill

Hi All, currently i have a 22"x22"x18" (12 mm glass) fresh planted tank and is planning to convert my hobby into a soft coral reef tank. I have decided to go for a ATS with a small sump.

The tank is without any facilities for sump, so is wondering if i should drill it or just get an overflow box? Thanks!

For me i'll drill.

Drill and fix PVC piping will do. Will forgo the overflow compartment as it takes up some space esp when u r having such small tank.

Drill for the beginning and enjoy a lot of conveniency in the future.

Got it at a Hardware shop at Blk 18, Marsiling Lane (S730018), last shop at the block. They also sell alot of PVC pipes and fittings. I guess most large "Five-Gold" shop should have them. Remember to check the size you need. I am using 35mm one for 1" fittings.

wha bro.. i suggest you do a leak and "strength" test first before starting.. just in case you've weaken the tank structure..

should be ok ba... Drilling at the corner of the base glass of tank wun affect much.

If u notice those tank on stand wan the only got the support from the frame of the stand with and 1 metal strip across the center. Meaning the rest of the base is not supported.

This kind type of iron stand structure also can support already and if talking about cabinet isn't it more secure?

:)

Thanks for the inputs! i did it! Bit nerve wreaking but once it starts going, its more like boring a hole through wood (with much less pressure)

Now doing the waiting game (cycling) with 40lbs of live sand and ~45kg of live rocks.

Still could not figure out how to post pictures.... only manage to upload into my gallery.

you have to drill slowly... and add water along the way to cool off the drill bit that contact with the glass...
