SRC Member Tanzy Posted January 9, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted January 9, 2004 Your gonio is tired of this world and hopped on the last bus to Valinor. Something is eating your corals. SRC Member Tanzy Posted January 9, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted January 9, 2004 I doubt it. It's inevitable that the goniopora will die anyway. Usually not so fast though. I have been keeping it for 7 months plus and recently, it is shrinking....what a waste.... we should leave it in the sea...
SRC Member dradttg Posted January 9, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted January 9, 2004 I have two that are going botak as well. My Golden Strip Maroon Clown has been helping to speed up the process by rubbing against it.

SRC Member jd_n Posted January 9, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted January 9, 2004 Could be polyp bail-out or coral polyp expulsion. Bascially the living polyps eject themselves from their skeleton to drift in the current, ideally findin a suitable settlin place where they can attach and begin to calcify a new skeleton. Bail-outs are almost seen in response to stress. This type of reaction is likely used as a last-ditch attempt for survival rather than a valid form of asexual reproduction under normal behaviour. The latter is where the individual polyps, along with the calices, detach and lift out of the colony skeleton. Although this resembles polyp bail-out, they are ejectin from otherwise healthy colonies. Both behaviors seem to be triggered by physcial disturbance and stress so mayb somethin is stressin out ur corals.....
