Nice!! Looks like diatoms are gonna boom soon on some of the rocks.

Good equipment choice, should consider getting a tunze skimmer small enough for this tank of yours!:)

Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.

diatoms gona boom? how come?

all this while I was thinking "Heng Ah, use distilled water no diatoms" ...

but has been cycled for more than 5 weeks and no sign of diatoms so far....

actually one of the compartment was sized to fit the tunze or Nac QQ or even Boyu WG310

but wana to try ATS first .. if failed then try skimmer

bro, blue moonlight will induce diatoms. your tank is good enough with the lumen aqua.

-Main Display Tank : 2ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft c/w sump tank cabinet (Set up by aquarium artist)

-Lightings : 4 sets of 1.5ft mini aqua lumen LED lights (7 high power led 15W)

-Chiller: 1/4HP artica chiller with a standby of HC-100A

-Skimmer : Bubble Magnus 3 (cone)

-Phosphate Reactor

-NP Bio-pellet D&D onceanic hang-on reactor

-Wavemaker : MP10

-Temperature mointor : American Wireless pinpoint thermometer

getting a skimmer doesn't mean no diatoms...diatoms are bacteria, not algae...they come bcoz the biological system in the tank is established...n there r nutrients available for good and bad bacteria to strive.

Skimmer can only get rid of 30-40% of undissolved nutrients....

so long as u do water change diligently and clean yr tank walls often...and dose bacteria after water change shd control these diatoms from overwhelming yr tank...and flow is more impt.

+ 1. do your water changes, a little more frequent if necessary, slowly removing the diatoms themselves, as well as their food source.

bro, i thought they are algae ? same class as planktons ...

sorry for the confusion.

to be specific, i meant those cynanobacteria that causes red slime or blue green algae.

brown algae are fuel mainly by silicates - sand bed in this case.

diatoms is a general term

Why is this so? Care to elaborate?

Check your source bro, there are a whole host of reasons for diatoms bloom. Blue moonlight is rarely on the top of tt list...

hmmm i am also wondering why moonlight will cause diatoms?
