Like to get another tank...but cant make a choice

of its dimension

was wondering is 2 x 2 x 2 or 2 x 1.5 x 1.5 ft tank better

was told that cube tank 2 x 2 x 2,landscape is hard to design

and being 2 feet high~~using T5 light may not enoght for Sps corals

as using a metal halide will be a much much better choice, however

the heat generated from the light will increase the temp

so was told that if the height is to reduce to 1.5 ft, then using T5

will be enought for sps corals .

Welcome all suggestion thanks :lol::bow:

If you are comparing this 2 size, of couse 2x2x2 is better. There are a few advantages.

Larger water volume,

Large width meaning better and easier rock scaping.

Very nice view in terms of depth from the front to the back.

Make full use of MH light if using one. (spread is 2x2ft)

very nice in overflow made in centre of back wall, can be viewed from 3 or 4side if made in centre of tank.

If you think 2ft high is too high, why no go fot a 2x2x1.5? a 1.5ft width is very hard to scape and dont look as nice.

I know of a couple using 2x250 watt mh on their 4ft tank and keep they temp around 29 by using ventilation fan blowing down at the water. must at least use fan and a big one. if not you temp will hit 30+ wan. for 150 should be better but still need to use fan to blow across between water and light. But a 2ftx2x2 can use a 1/4 HP chiller. look for a second hand one. should be aroun 300+. save lotsa trouble of water topup and min salt spray.

Ok i see

thanks again for your advise

think most probably i will opt for 2 x 2 x 2.

for light, afraid that T5 might not able to substain

the high lighting requirement of sps esp acrpo..

so metal halide will be better choice

just wonder any reefer here using T5 light for 2 feet or so

and able to keep those sps corals in good condition?

thanks
