Tank Cycling with Media that can reduce ammonia?

Hi all,

I just started my cycling few days ago and added a market prawn. Then I realise in my filter, there is Pura Complete which claims to remove ammonia.

Will this disrupt my cycling? I tested the water today and ammonia was 0.5 and nitrite was 0. The market prawn is already rotting.

Just hope that the cycle can be proper

2 Feet Tank: (Decom Feb 2015)
-Lightings : Pharos LED light 90W with wireless controller
-Chiller : Arctica 1/10HP with H2Ocean Flow Pump 2000

-Wavemaker : Vortech MP10ES
-Skimmer : Bubble Magus NAC 3.5

-Return Pump : Eheim Compact 3000
-Reactor – TLF150 (Mod) with NP Biopellet
-Reactor – TLF150 with Rowaphos

Read the section on tank cycling. Remove all chemical filtration media.

Keep it moist in a ziplock bag after a quick rinse with distilled water. DO NOT rinse with tap water.

So after I remove the Pura Complete, can my cycle be proper or I should change water? I am worried that the Pura Complete chemical still exist in the water which will still affect the cycling

I think PURA complete binds the ammonia to the media or something like that... So removing the media is enough... As long as you get a increase and decrease in the Ammonia and Nitrite level.. It is cycling normally..

Thanks bro. Will take note just take out only. I also previously added Prodibio Biodigest for the bateria. Now feels so dishearted already since everything like damaged because of the early intro of Pura Complete

:ThanxSmiley:

else i will really wonder what happen to my water readings

Did some reading. Yes it can still cycle but the benificial bacterial amount may be only a little since ammonia was artificially removed.

End up one fine day after the media's properties finish up your tank may crash

It is still fine becos you still see a increase in the ammonia level, it should just cycle fine..

thanks bro. I saw my ammonia went up to 1 last night but nitrite still 0. That is why I started to worry if ammonia were all removed by Pura before it can go to Nitrite

My market prawn decomposed until very bad already...

haha

also waste $ on the Pura already. Not sure if I keep it in bag for use another day will it be spoiled

why? carbon and rowaphos ok right?

No point to waste money on consumable chemical filter media while you are still cycling as you will perform a big water change after the cycle. So most of the water that these media treated will go down the drain.

Be patient. Cycling is a 4-6 week affair. start your tank right and you reap it's benefits and likely to lose less money later on.

I sent an email to Pura Complete to enquire about this. Of course their reply is that their product has no problem and have no ill effect. Not very convincing as they did not provide facts and details.

Here is their reply

It will not have any impact on cycling. The ammonia is still available for

nitrification. Likewise you will not have a spike in the future. Once the

tank is cycled you can replace the Pura Complete without any adverse

effects.

best is let nature take its course ba

maybe a bit of chemical theoretically not a good practice but also doesn't mean is wrong

cycle long enough things should be there will be there

even a well cycled tank also will crash

<_<
