Hi fellows. I'm looking to custom-make a metal stand to suspend my light fixture from. I've more or less settled on what I'll like the outcome to resemble: Option #1: (this is still option #1; just that it's viewed from the side) Option #2: But the tricky thing is, as one of the edge of my tank is occupied by something, I cannot use conventional stands that rest on the edge. Secondly, as I'm not using a cabinet, but a steel tank stand, i.e. no "full solid back" to speak of, I will prefer if the stand can be deisgn to be free-standing from the floor directly (if I opt for Option #2, I suppose I can use some brackets, or even lots of cable ties to secure the vertical portion of the light stand to my tank's stand; but free-standing directly on the floor is still preferred ). As such, my questions are: Question #1: will aluminium rods, or stainless steel rods be more appropriate for my application? The fixture to be suspended is likely not to exceed 3kg, but I'm worried about the "snapping" of aluminium & I'm not sure if aluminium can be bent easily (I heard aluminium snap under strain instead of bending) Question #2: anybody knows any shops that can sell the material & provide the bending service? If they don't come together, any shops that provide either are welcome too. Question #3: anybody know how much such bending services cost, e.g. one right-angle bend cost how much, 2 metres of stainless steel rod cost how much, etc? Question #4: any recommendation for the diameter for such a load? & should I avoid hollow rods? Hope I can find some answers here. Thanks in advance.
