  1. 1ft clearance, is it enough for servicing and maintenance of tanks? I suppose I need 2x250W MH. As for the fluroscent, wht type of combination shd I go for? As for the sump, will it be too small I I go for 2.5(L)x2(W)ft? I which to have a refrigum and the rest of the empty space will be use for the external pump, skimmer and etc....
  2. I have a 1ft nano tank and basic setup is still fine. The problem comes when it comes to the type of piping, sump, layout and etc..... I intend to have a 3(L)x3(W)x2.5(H)ft 12mm thick tank. I can decide whether to have the overflow by the side or centre of the tank. Furthermore, I'm not sure whether to have a wavemaker for this tank size. As for the sump design, I have no idea on the layout too and the type of pump to use. I understand that it is recommended to have 2 inlet and outlet piping but not very sure how it works. If one inlet is stuck, then won't it overflow when the two outlet is working and it will be unbalance or vise versa! I hope u all can understand what I mean. Is the lighting very difficult to change? The problem with my tank setup is there is only abt 1ft of clearance between my tank and the ceiling. Therefore, I have a big concern if it will cause obstruction for future maintenance.
  3. Have a big headache on which reliable tank maker to approach! Got a no. of recommendation but can't really decide since it's a big investment and I'm still pretty new to this! Read a few link/ post but still not very sure and pretty confuse abt the type of setup and types of equipment!
  4. I know that 20K is not as bright as 10K, but for tank that is 2.5ft height, will it be sufficient?
  5. Btw, will the lifespan of the chiller be shorten if place under the cabinet as compare to putting it in the open?
  6. Wht's the type of lighting combination that most pple go for? Let say for a mixed tank setup!
  7. Thks for the info! Sign.... May hv to give up this idea!!!
  8. Is eaquanature still in Geylang? Went there this evening but notice that the shop is empty and seems like it had become a motorcyle shop!!!
  9. But if it's acrylic, will give it a pass as I still prefer glass as it does not scratch easily! Anyone got any lobang???
  10. Acrylic shd scratch easily as compare to glass. Maybe will consider using acrylic as the base instead since it's stronger than glass! Will there be bonding issue if I use a mixture of glass and acrylic?
  11. My intention is to have the L-shape tank at my foyer area which is at the main entrance of my new house! It will look gd cos from the entrance, the tank looks unique and seems to extend all the way to my living room! But cost is the main issue cos hving a L-shape seems to be more difficult to maintain and the lighting and overflow may be require at both area!
  12. I hv an idea of having a L-shape reef tank! I know it got to be costly but will it be possible that the price will be double of a normal rectangluar tank? Furthermore, I forsee that I may have difficulty maintaining the tank and the current of the tank will oso post an issue! Pls advise!
  13. Any idea the price diff for different type of glass?
  14. If one of yr return pump is down, will it cos yr sump to overflow?
  15. So far, I understand that most pple go for tunze as the ideal wavemaker. R u refering to maxi-jet and other brands of pump?
  16. I shd be going for a mixed tank! Will two tunze pump be too much and will it stir up the SB?
  17. 1) How many tunze pump do I need for a 5x2x2ft tank? 2) Wht's the lighting combination I shd go for - 2x250 MH & ? 3) Wht's the dia of the beckett skimmer to go for? 4) Sump size - Consist of filter & refugim? 5) The flow of equipment - Main tank -> sump -> skimmer -> Fluidized Reactor -> sump -> Calcium Reactors -> sump -> refugim -> chiller -> main tank....????
  18. Here's the chklist which will help me to do it right! (I hope! ) Pls feel free to add yr comment/ suggest! 1) 5x2x2ft tank (12mm thick) 2) Skimmer ? 3) Sump layout ? 4) Sand grade/ thickness for Main tank and sump? 5) Pump ? 6) Tunze x nos? 7) Live rock ?kg 8) Type of Lighting ? 9) Piping layout? 10) Salt ? 11) ? 12) ? ......................
  19. I dun think I will let go this hobby but before I jump into the big setup, I want to ensure that the $, time and effort spend is effective and efficient! Currently, I still got a few planted tanks and I wanted to try out marine tank! I agree that bigger tank means more time spend and $! In terms of water parameter, shd be easier us I face a lot of problem with nano tank intially as the parameter flucuate alot! Instead, hv 2 chg the type of salt and use mineral water instead of normal tap water! Btw, hw many Tunze pump will I need for a 5x2x2ft tank? As for the skimmer, any recommedation? Any things to tank notes abt the piping, overflow, sump, etc...???
  20. I saw smthing "true union swing"! Wht is it for???
  21. Thanks for all your advise! I intend to invest slowly and add the fish/ reef slowly. The basic will still be the tank, piping, pump, skimmer and sump. But my biggest worry is the piping and how 2 connect those equipment if I add one by one at a time. Can anyone advise how shd the water flow goes abt with equipment such as skimmer, chiller, reactor & etc....?
  22. I always 1 2 hv my own marine tank! I setup a 1ft nano tank before but due to power trip, the whole tank got wipe out! I intend to setup a 5x2x2ft tank in my new house. But I'm not sure whether is it a right move cos I dun hv experience for those piping and equipments. Basic stuff like water properties is still OK for me. Nd expert out there to advise whether is it advisable to go into the big setup???
