  1. dad's new fish.. male blue-eyed anthia..
  2. for a 4ft tank, go for a better skimmer.. like bro ahsiang mentioned here, reefoctopus is fine, or i would recommend beckette.. $200 could get u a decent 2nd hand skimmer in the buy/sell forum.. tank makers can make u a sump tank with dimensions for abt 100.. 500 is definitely okay.. good luck..
  3. nice tank.. my tank also go by external overflow.. advantage of external overflow = more space inside tank for gems.. disadvantage maybe have to watch out for leaks.. nice setup, will be watching this one..
  4. dun worry bro, this hobby has created much stress to countless reefers.. even reefers who have been in this hobby for yrs.. i'm also a student, so i understand your plight.. actually, try to involve your family into this hobby, it will make life easier, and also creates more quality family time together to be involved in this together.. after this setback, you will make a stronger comeback.. have u found out what caused this sudden crash?
  5. i wouldnt worry, it sounds like they're just expelling waste.. it happens once in a while.. monitor them for another day, the poo will just drift away and ur zoas will be fine..
  6. thanks curahee, zoas mostly from fellow reefers from propagation.. some from GO..
  7. harvesting my chaetos again, $5 each, interested parties PM me thanks..
  8. it is not harmful.. it is natural to have them, and a good healthy growth of the pods are good signs..
  9. upz.. a package of $200 for the set, the NEW bulb, and the 2 t5s DIY..
  10. 6 tubes will be alright, i uses 8 tubes.. no problems with sps so far.. it is more advisable to use good ballast for good tubes, so as to fully utilise the expensive tubes.. the china ones just don't make the cut.. in my opinion.. hope that helps..
  11. looks like a bleached bubble-tipped anemone to me.. in bad shape..
  12. my algae blenny never eats anything i gave it, only nips at algae it finds in the tank.. till now, fat and healthy for 1year.. just my 2 cents.. =)
  13. this is the DIY t5, elbiru ballast, 2x ATI Blueplus tubes >1yr old..
  14. this is a 4feet 150W fixture, modified into 250W DE, with appopriate ballast and holders.. 2x 250W 2x FL actinic bought from Thairun about half a year back, changing to full T5 now.. comes with same 2x used 12k bulbs, http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...c=68048&hl= will throw in a new BLV 14k DE 250W bulb, plus a DIY 2x t5 with 2 ATI blueplus tubes.. all for $200, self collect and testing in woodlands.. interested parties just drop me a PM, cheers.. vincent
  15. my dad has done drilling on the side of glass, with tank water reduced to half.. u need a drill with the diamond cutter.. and use masking tape to tape up a border, and keep adding water as u drill slowly.. so far, 4 holes in my dad's 10mm tank, and 2 holes in a smaller 2ft seahorse tank.. but u need to be really careful, and its a risk.. especially there's livestocks in the tank..
  16. check for parasites that may be disturbing the zoas.. frag off dislodged pieces using penknife to cut the mat of the zoas, and glue these pieces onto seperate rocks to let them grow.. if not, give the colony enough flow and lighting, and monitor the health of the closed polyps.. if the 'disease' seem to be spreading, and more polyps aren't opening, frag off the healthy ones and salvage at least a portion of it.. just my opinion, hope that helps..
