  1. 1 of the reasons why corals turn brown, is because of insufficient lighting.. corals host more zooxanthellae in order to capture more light to make food for reef building.. these zooxanthellae are the reason why corals look brownish.. of course, if there's excess lighting, coral will naturally expel most of their zooxanthellae, as they need less of the algae to make that same amt of food.. this results in bleaching.. hope that helps..
  2. i agree.. good lighting and occasional dosing of coral food helps..
  3. yupps dun worry, the hairy brown colour stuff are just algae, they wil grow because there are excess nutrients in the water.. (from food, fish poo, etc) there are a few types in the supermarket, some are mineral water, and others are "distilled water".. get those distilled ones.. if u dun have a separate compartment, u can just top up inside the tank, dont think it matters.. dun use tap water because it will contribute problems like phosphate..
  4. thread closed, thanks all who have showed interest..
  5. thanks all who have showed interest.. thread closed..
  6. you can try soaking it in vinegar.. but do wash thoroughly before placing in ur tank..
  7. thats a good buy.. ups for your sales..
  8. your tank is actually looking good, you'll need time to let ur sand become 'live' to house beneficial bacteria, and more liverocks will definitely help u stabilise ur system more.. an auto-topup is something which helps u top up freshwater to your tank, because as the water evaporates off (even more due to fan), the water becomes saltier as salt is not evaporated.. this will help u maintain a certain salinity in ur tank.. an alternative is to have a hydrometer, something which measures water salinity, and take measurements very frequently and manually top up with distilled water to maintain the level.. oh, and i am guessing your cleaner wrasse won't last long, because they clean off parasites from large fishes, and have low survivability in homes.. you can definitely do rock scapes with fishes inside, no worries, just be careful not to squash any fishes that may be hiding under rocks..
  9. actual piece is slightly smaller abt 3/4 this size, because it has been fragged 1 time..

  15. its better to do lots of research, complete the cycling process (with adequate water tests), and get 2nd hand equipment from the reefers here at the buy/sell forum for a start.. many reefers here will give good advice on what are the essential equipment, which brands, and tips to start out smooth in marine keeping.. lots of members' tanks will give u inspiration on rock scaping as well.. i myself have made many friends here since i started out marine.. u will feel the sense of achievement once u grasp the technique, and will truly enjoy this hobby, good luck and have patience..
